Before 1993, women werenโ€™t allowed to wear pants on the Senate floor. That changed when Sen. Moseley Braun (D-IL), & Sen. Barbara Mikulski (D-MD) wore trousers - shocking the male-dominated Senate. This eventually led to the dress code being clarified to allow women to wear pants. Credit: Liberal Jane Illustration https://www.liberaljane.com #history #uspol
@Sheril
it's amazing that it was in the late 90s FFS.
it's funny though because when you say "that's sexist" they roll their eyes. but when it come to any form of affirmative action or something they say "that's racist"
@Sheril That was around the time I saw my grandma (b. 1922) wearing slacks for the first time in my memory.
@Sheril That plays out weirdly in UK (where pants = underwear ๐Ÿ˜‰).

@Sheril I had to wear dresses/skirts in Elementary School until they changed the dress code when I was in 5th grade.

Itโ€™s absurd.

@Sheril Also: are men on the Senate floor allowed to wear Kilts?๐Ÿค”
@mlanger @Sheril asking the real questions.

@mlanger @Sheril

you mean "non-bifurcated trousers"

@Sheril

Whenever I watch American films, I usually see women in skirts and very high heels. ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ

@Sheril the GOP dudes can put laws and policies on womenโ€™s genitalia
@Sheril Land of the free, indeed.
