Racism among Danish far-right politicians is jaw dropping.

Running for reelection to parliament is Mikkel Bjørn, a member of Dansk Folkeparti, who recently used the official parliamentary processes to ask our Minister of Integration if a 17-year-old girl could be denied citizenship based on the fact that her last name was “Arab”, arguing she should “move back to her home country where such a lastname would be appropriate”.

Curiously, his own party leader goes by the German name Messerschmidt.

The latest development in this matter is, that Mikkel Bjørn now claims he asked the question by mistake. I find that explanation really strange, because formulating and submitting questions to the minister is a multistep process.
@randahl "it was just a joke" type troll defence
@randahl The mistake is that he didn’t intend it as a question.
@slotos @randahl Yeah, that "question" sounds more like signalling to his voter base.
Frankly someone with the last name Bjørn (bear) should move to the forest and live on a cave.
@randahl Be them racists or surveillance capitalists, when caught the explanation it's always "it was a mistake/error".
@randahl 😅
Orvell level 9000
@randahl Bonus points if you find connections to the German Messerschmidt airplanes.
@zbrando @randahl More bonus points if you call for that Messerschmidt guy to be deported to where such a surname would be appropriate.
Not zat ve are partickly lacking in such types, but I guess wir schaffen das.
@zbrando @randahl Sorry, i see that my fellow countryman @supernova disagrees. Then maybe send him over here to the Netherlands, they have a soft spot for all things Wehrmacht. He can lay down a wreath for all the white dead kids on rememberance day.

@randahl It's honestly disgusting how far right reach has gotten.

I mean, I get it. Us against them, keep people scared so they're easier to control … <long digital sigh>

@randahl don‘t send the man. We have enough of those guys already. We don‘t care for the Name.
@randahl It was a mistake, yes, but now the word is out and many who sympathize with it have gotten a rush, and others who may have had it in the back of their minds will surely get it right on the wish list. Bullshit DF
