With the Greens winning the Gorton and Denton by-election easily yesterday hopefully centre / centre right parties like Labor / Labour were paying attention

You don't need to give ground to racist extreme right parties like One Nation / Reform to beat them, you can do it from the left

@HardBeingGreen
True to form as well Farage is taking a leaf out of trump’s playbook & saying there was cheating 🙄.
@feather1952 @HardBeingGreen there was disinformation campaigning from her opponents, but even that couldn’t stop her winning. Well done to her and her campaign team for succeeding without having to use dirty tactics. #NeverTellMeTheOdds
@emmadavidson @HardBeingGreen
I hope that makes opposition realise that they can’t keep taking the public for the fools they seem to think we are!
@feather1952 @emmadavidson @HardBeingGreen I hope you are right. But if One Nation is really gaining support then I think not.

@Ooze @feather1952 @emmadavidson

It'll be interesting to see what preference deals are done, I'm hoping everyone puts them last but a desperate coalition might risk it. I don't think it'll pay off if they do

Either way, I'm hoping their support is a temporary blip

@HardBeingGreen @Ooze @feather1952 @emmadavidson
Party preference don’t mean a thing, unless the voter is stupid enough to vote in accordance with a Party issued flyer. Dyed in the wool party members will vote accordingly anyway. So the only target for party preferences are stupid (donkey) voters. I’m hoping there aren’t too many of those anyway. :)

@RaymondPierreL3 @Ooze @feather1952 @emmadavidson

45% of major party voters follow the HTV card according to Antony and studies he quotes here

Should How-To-Votes be Banned at Australian Elections?

Australian is unusual among western democracies in permitting active campaigning outside polling places on election day. Despite sharing much electoral heritage with Australia, New Zealand sits at …

To me that says 45% would vote for the party no matter what so HTV cards is an easy way to support your party without having to think about it. That’s the only reason a voter would use HTV cards I reckon. I’d like to think that the remainder put some thought into whom they prefer to distribute their vote to - but maybe not all of them given informals and donkey votes… I really don’t have the figures to back this up, it’s just my thinking on this.

@RaymondPierreL3 @Ooze @feather1952 @emmadavidson

45% follow the HTV as written so putting One Nation last matters

@HardBeingGreen they are absolutely not going to take that lesson. The left of most political parties right now is putting all its energy into fighting itself, and doesn’t have enough left to fight Tories.
@emmadavidson you're probably right Emma but dare to dream
@HardBeingGreen UK is first past the post, what Labor and the LNP will learn from that is a stronger need to preference each other, to ensure they keep hold of politics.
@metaning can't see Labor putting the LNP ahead of the Greens despite how much they dislike them
