🚨 New Video: YubiKey 5 Review - Security Essential or Overpriced?

The "Industry Standard" is usually a warning sign.

In this video, we are looking at the YubiKey 5 NFC and 5C NFC. These are arguably the best engineered security keys on the planet. They are injection molded, "violence-proof," and they work with just about everything. But for those of us in the Linux and FOSS community, they present a problem.

Can you trust a security tool if you aren't allowed to see how it works?

YubiKey 5 Review - Security Essential or Overpriced?

YouTube

@terminaltilt That's what I call "Failed at 99%".

If you even have a PeerTube link, why don't you just leave the YouTube link away? ;)

@pino

My goal is total digital sovereignty, but until PeerTube has the reach to sustain the channel's growth, YouTube remains a necessary evil for discovery. I am able to reach a lot more people with my values on YouTube. For instance, my "Windows Exodus" video reached over 100k people while I think about 60 or 70 watched it on PeerTube.

Just like with privacy, it is a spectrum and not binary. I have gotten much of Big Tech out of my life but I don't know if I will ever rid all of it.

@terminaltilt I haven't said "Don't be on Youtube". Unfortunately, it might be a necessary evil to be there (and everyone who _is_ there pushes that forward!). But here, when people read your toot, they already found you, no? Why is a PeerTube link not enough then? Why routing people from here into the walled gardens again, if you obviously have some understanding that this is not good?

@pino

Posting only PeerTube would be the more pure thing to do, the reality is that many here, myself included, still use YouTube for its content discovery and reach. I’m a huge advocate for PeerTube, but the infrastructure and discovery aren't at parity yet. I provide both links to give people the choice of how they consume the content. We’re working toward that sovereign future, but we aren’t fully there yet.
