1/n I’m on a long train trip again! I’m almost out of data, and have a ton of work to do, but will try to share interesting updates if they arise.

Before the internet starts mansplaining trains again:
- yes, I’m aware of the existence of quiet cars,
- yes, I book my seats in advance, and in those quiet cars if available,
- yes, I know that I can book 1st class tickets and do so depending on availability and other factors.

In fact, I’ve been on my train for only 30 minutes and am already regretting paying an extra 20 € for first class. One of the passengers here is exceptionally disgusting, he’s sitting opposite of me, and it’s busy enough that I cannot really move.

10/n My train arrived in Mannheim 8 minutes delayed. Connecting train now has a 20 minute delay, so that’s okay. Sadly not enough time for an exciting #LatourDetour (also because of more luggage than usual and massive period cramps). Hopefully it won’t get delayed by more, because I’m quite cold.

13/n I'm always amazed at how close to the tracks people live here in Basel. Also: I got a free drink. In the previous train I felt like dozing off, and on this one the seats are super comfy and it's quite warm here, so I guess I'll take some of that caffeine, thank you.

14/n Only *just* made my connection in Zürich, due to bad lift luck. Entered the platform at exactly the other end of the train from where I needed to be, so ended up pushing my suitcase through the entire train to reach my booked seat, only to find a Very Loud Italian ™️ next to me making a conference call.

A few intense Dirty Looks ™️ later, and he's comparatively quiet now. At least he disinfects his hands before opening his Coca Cola, so I guess Fellow Traveller Hygiene has improved compared to this morning. I can now endure the smell of cola in silence.

16/n I can hardly believe it, but it looks like I might arrive in Lugano on time‽

I do notice that every time I decide to splurge on my ticket, I have no delays (and hence no money back...), even though I do plan for delays (by leaving extra early and bringing extra provisions etc).

Oh well. At least that means that there might be some good Italian food in my near future, which is a definite plus :)

Will take the fact that I can be mistaken for a “sir” into my next salary negotiations 💅

The last time I made that mistake myself I called out "excusez-moi monsieur l'agent", alas it was madame l'agent. In my defense it was dark and she was wearing slacks and a reinforced jacket. Shockingly I lived to tell the tale. She was totally unphased and helpfully answered my question (about parking).
