How I built Timeframe, our family e-paper dashboard - Joel Hawksley

Over the past decade, I've worked to build the perfect family dashboard system for our home, called Timeframe:

@caseyliss @ccgus God, Casey, tag your porn! 😆
@tbridge @caseyliss @ccgus The number of times I nearly impulse-bought the (previously B/W only) Mira Pro Display to use as a second monitor: less than half a dozen 😬
@bruienne @tbridge @caseyliss @ccgus this post has finally pushed me over the edge to pull the trigger on the perpetual (hobbyist) visionect licenses I was looking at…

@caseyliss did you watch the tour of his house? Incredible

If I rebuilt my Smart Home, I’d want THIS

YouTube
@rjames I’m scared to watch this
@caseyliss some wild stuff but also really cool little things I would have never thought of. Also holy Hunter Douglas low voltage shade system! Didn’t even know that was a thing (I have solar powered battery HD shades)
@rjames holy God so jealous
@caseyliss Just don't look at how much e-ink of that size costs; it's not good for your health.

@melonamin He said it was something like $2k

😱

@caseyliss yep, this is the reason I literally have a few old iPad 12.9 at this role instead... waiting for reasonable big e-ink
@caseyliss My kingdom for an Apple iFrame.
@caseyliss @ccgus I can’t really use the English language to describe how quickly my wife said “no”.
@caseyliss I was like I’d love to build this until the last paragraph where we learn the screen costs $2000
@caseyliss horny posting on main
@caseyliss @ccgus it feels like an altar to the smart home gods.
@caseyliss @ccgus that is incredible and a fun read how he has evolved it.
@caseyliss @ccgus Amazing. Can’t wait for the giant e-ink displays to get under $2K.
@caseyliss I think you could justify this as an ATP overtime discussion piece. Especially if they become physically available to buy in the future.
An updated daily front page of The New York Times as artwork on your wall

As a news junkie, tech journalist and founder of an online news platform called Blendle, I love a good old front page of a newspaper. When…

@caseyliss Since I found out about the TRMNL guy’s blog posts I’ve been looking for alternative kit. The Boox Note Max has a 13” screen and costs $600 which seems… not unreasonable? It’s a tablet not a monitor, though.
@caseyliss @ccgus I was literally just mulling a similar project but with the Boox writing tablet that can magsafe onto the wall, so we can yank it off and make some notes with a pen. I love it!
@caseyliss Dude - you need this. You’ll have so much fun.
