Trump, caught patrolling an ally: EMergency! I'll send a sick boat that's in the sick bay.
Here's one of the first announcements of the rescue I saw.
It seems the reason you announce this is for maximal embarrassment.
Tl;dr: Greenland announced this to humiliate Trump.
In response, Trump posted a bullshit post, and most American outlets and far far far far too many people On Here posted it as if it had truth value.

US subs would pass through the waters of Greenland normally on their way to the Arctic ocean from the North Atlantic.
It says something about the Republican administration that this is a thing that would even be questioned
