The billionaire philanthropist making hundreds of Londoners homeless

He's the London philanthropist who says he's committed to solving homelessness. So why is Asif Aziz's Criterion Capital rushing to make hundreds of Londoners homeless in the coming weeks?

@TheBreadmonkey

"…the Aziz evictions dwarf the scale of the mass evictions carried out by Henry Smith, another wealthy London landlord, which caused widespread consternation across the capital in 2024."

@TheBreadmonkey "Aziz, […] described his mission in life: “I have worked hard to accumulate wealth not simply for myself, but for the communities that I am a part of.”

If only the UK government would make all billionaires live up to their "charitable" side, by taxing obscene wealth.

The absolutely insane renters market in London wasn't an insignificant driver in us moving away from the UK. (Our flat was terminated for putting it onto Airbnb. Albeit, we had already settled on moving by then.)

@TheBreadmonkey
the fact that this type of scene doesn't happen is a testament to something.
@TheBreadmonkey Why is he called a philanthropist then? That's the exact opposite.
@TheBreadmonkey Fuck me! This is tyranny at it's core.

@TheBreadmonkey

Billionarism is a social pathology.

@TheBreadmonkey
When I was filming Sadiq Khan’s pre election dinner at The Dorchester, the thought did cross my mind that *someone* was footing an enormous bill for the evening. Never knew who it was. Now I’m wondering again. I hope I was wrong. 😗

@TheBreadmonkey

Have to say, I called that 😛.
Faith restored in my old mate.

And well done LondonCentric, for such brilliant reporting.

Billionaire Asif Aziz halts mass eviction of hundreds of Londoners

Exclusive: Asif Aziz's Criterion Capital hoped to replace hundreds of private tenants with more lucrative temporary accommodation. That plan has been shelved – for now.
