After extensively listening to Angine de Poitrine, I can't listen to normal music anymore. They use custom microtonal guitars (24edo), and so they hit notes that normal guitars don't. Couple that with ingenious ways to make their jumps from 4/4 to 6/12/etc and still sounding harmonic, you just can't go back to plain 4/4 pop/rock music. It's too boring.

Masters of their craft. They're the future of music.

@eugenialoli I recently discovered them and gosh! They are amazing.
@eugenialoli same, been hooked since discovering them
@eugenialoli @petrnuska It's still quite niche, but I love it. Just throwing in a few others you might like.
Escape by Syzygy (all in 10TET I believe): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R9aq9-WTghE
Transfigured Earth I & II by Brendan Byrnes (various microtonal setups): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TEBwFyYeAE0
Brendan also did Astral Bloom: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I_LZjC6-Rpo
PS. I’m still planning to get an adjustable microtonal electric guitar, hopefully this year.

Angine de Poitrine

@eugenialoli Checking them out now after seeing your recommendation.
@eugenialoli I'm enjoying their videos. They make me giggle. But those outfits can't be comfortable.
@eugenialoli
They are on bandcamp!

@eugenialoli

Victory Over the Sun might be up your alley. Check out Nowherer.

@eugenialoli
Thanks, I love-hate it.

They’re doing a thing I’ve long disliked (in my family’s typical pedantic way), but they’re doing it with such brilliant artistry & whimsy that I nonetheless find it compelling.

You may have ruined me.

Dammit.

Now it reminds me of a story. My brother (2y older) & I were very musical teens, attending Oak Hill Baptist in Columbia Heights, MN.

A hymn we liked. Older guy in front of us clapping on 1 & 3. We clapped two 8ths on 2, & 8th triplets on 4…

@eugenialoli
Partway through the song, the guy in front of us snapped his head around & snarled, “Our God is not a God of CONFUSION!”

Now I’m hoping he’s in hell, forced to watch this YouTube video for eternity. (An insincere overstatement for humor.)

@eugenialoli Unfortunately this is not quite my bag. It's interesting to turn melody instruments into nearly pure rhythm, though. Like making the guitar a drum set.
@eugenialoli Maybe a great exploration for you in semitonal to microtonal music is Bill Laswell’s album ‘Tabla Beat Science’ featuring Zakhir Hussein. Indian sitars were an earlier instrument capable of semitones to microtones and tabla rhythms are not limited to anything like 4, 8, 16, 32 etc beats.
