#QuestionOfTheDay what's a famous/infamous/beloved/emotional/shocking/hated/etc moment in a work that just didn't do anything for you? Not that you hated something universally beloved or weren't shocked because you saw it coming or anything, just that it didn't do it for you, you didn't feel anything about it, you might have not expected a shocking moment but you didn't feel particularly moved by it, etc

It has to be something that popular consensus seems to be is a BIG DEAL but to you just isn't

Use spoiler tags if needed. Mention the work and moment. Include why it didn't work for you if you want to.

@ami_angelwings so, I doubt I need to spoil that in The End and the Death Horus and the Emperor fight. That fight had been hyped up by Games Workshop and Black Library for like 30 years before the book came out.

Like a lot of the Horus Heresy I felt it didnt really benefit from the 30 years of hype. We already knew the broad strokes of what happened.

But the actual fight... it felt like two old men getting into a slapfight. I had read like a hundred #warhammer #40k books by then and I had seen many people, including that specific author write epic fight scenes. And then I got to the main event and I was very underwhelmed.

@ami_angelwings I guess, maybe, my general reaction to the #RevolutionaryGirlUtena movie.

It had, and still does in fandom generally I think, a reputation for being a wild acid trip of a movie and I was just…it’s Utena, and not even particularly out there by Utena standards. https://piratesobg.wordpress.com/2014/01/22/twenty-days-of-anime-movies-day-20-adolescence-of-utena-1999/

Twenty Days of Anime Movies – Day 20 – Adolescence of Utena (1999)

Prior to watching Adolescence of Utena I was expecting something that would completely blow my mind. After all this film has something of a reputation as an exemplar of the “What the hell were they…

Pirates of the Burley Griffin

@ami_angelwings Star Trek Discovery Season 1... The senseless death of Hugh Culber, adding a completely unnecessary Bury Your Gays moment. It felt so distasteful that I couldn't really mourn for the character.

Made even more meaningless by resurrecting him later as some sort of clone from mushroom space.

@ami_angelwings the gundam sequel movie Char's Counterattack. Yes the whole entire movie. I thought it was boring and ugly with terrible pacing and bad politics.
@ami_angelwings
The Death of Superman did nothing for me. I wondered how Doomsday just appeared out of nowhere and proceeded to pimp slap all DC's best and brightest all across the country. Of course Superman had to stop him because there wasn't anyone else. May have raised an eyebrow when Superman died, but knew it wasn't going to last long.
@jlm i think it was made even weirder because the JLA at the time was the JLI edition with Fire, Ice, Beetle, Booster, Bloodwynd (who at least turned out to be J'omn in disguise) and their heaviest hitter was Maxima, so it's not even like Doomsday took out Wonder Woman, Flash and Green Lantern on his way to Superman
@ami_angelwings
The reveal of the ‘red pill’ premise of the Matrix was so disappointing to me that I considered walking out of a movie—for the first time ever. I stayed, but couldn’t do more than appreciate some of the cinematography while waiting for the movie to end.
@Roundtrip this is the kind of spicy take I want, thank you
@Roundtrip I was at a screening of The Matrix where when Neo took the red pill, the screen burned up. I thought it was part of the film and very clever and it turned out actually the film did burn up and they had to get a new reel.

@ami_angelwings The twin and Dumbledore getting killed. Read the books ages ago when they were released. Both felt pointless and emotionless. But that’s expected considering how below mediocre she is as an author.

I just in general dislike character deaths in fiction as they tend to be written for a shock effect, but it’s usually just a bummer.

Resurrecting them is equally meh. Fake out deaths sucks as well.

There are a few cases where it was genuinely well done though. But that’s for another day.

@ami_angelwings a lot of the big moments in Babylon 5 fell a bit flat for me, possibly because I kept seeing them get quoted by strangers as big awesome moments for the previous 20 years. must've just missed my window
