I noticed many accounts have a padlock icon, and their follow button says "Request to follow". I've been pressing it, but I’m always a little unsure. It's not too intrusive, is it? They aren't private personal accounts that don't want to be followed, are they?

@iwritelike I read a person's bio before following (whether they have locked followers or not) in case they ask for potential followers to interact first, etc. Otherwise just follow away. I can only speak for myself but I have this set so that when I toot for followers-only I have a sort-of idea of what sort of people can read them.

@wordsmith 😳 I didn't even know one could toot to separate groups of people, publicly or only to followers.

I feel like I'm at a University 😅 learning something new every day!

@iwritelike the basics are easy but there are a lot of extra buttons to press if you want!

On the Web UI there's a small pane at the top of the composition window that states "Public, anyone can quote". From here you can change the visibility settings for the next post.

@wordsmith I can see it now but I think I'm still in a tunnel vision mode for now. It's getting better, though. Thank you!
