Bus drivers' union want to see hi-vis jackets become 'mandatory' for cyclists

The union said that the issue has grown due to a ā€˜proliferation’ of electric vehicles.

@clickhere High vis is ludicrous, but assuming Dublin is vaguely like what I see in the 'burbs of Naarm, there are some riders making some really stupid choices at night.

All too common for the converted ebikes that are ignoring power limits to also have ignored the reflector requirements (wheel, pedal, rear and front required for a comercial sale, unsure what the actual riding rules are) when spraying their bike matte black. Which is the same colour every item of clothing they wear too.

@clickhere But lets just enforce some basic 'vehicle must be visible' rules, not silly clothing requirements.

While also remembering that those ignoring those common sense rules on a bike are committing suicide, not murder.

@LovesTha Here in Ireland, there are existing laws governing the use of bike lights (and governing e-assist/motor-powered vehicles, the latter essentially prohibited).

The only thing not the topic of lobbying is driver behaviour, despite the data on road safety/violence clearly showing the source of danger on the roads.
