❄️ Throwback to the best #barnfind location ever! Expédition Antarctique 1966 : The Belgian Sno-Cats

Three bright orange Tucker Sno-Cats remain in a Belgian barn after the 1966 Belgo-Dutch expedition to East Antarctica. While others are in museums, these were kept privately and left in this old barn.

The sides of the vehicles bear the Expédition Antarctique 1966 logo, reportedly designed by Tintin artist Hergé in 1957.

Mention of museums jogged a memory - here's one with a logo labelled '1957-1958' I saw in the air museum in Brussels. Photo from 2005!

Fitting that Tintin author Hergé drew the logo when the machine itself looks like something that might well have come right out of his books! This is the amphibious vehicle from Jo, Zette and Jocko:
@DenOfEarth @ObsidianUrbex @coprolite9000 he was so good at drawing all kinds of machinery, vehicles etc.

I have a book that is a compilation of all the cars he drew, that I got at a museum gift shop when they had a Hergé exhibit. It's pretty awesome. Many were real cars of the era, while some were futuristic inventions.

Aww yes, the face is the same on both. How delightful 🥰

@ObsidianUrbex Thank you! The wind tunnel control room and these pictures touch something very special, a post-war vision of a future that looked somewhat different from the one we are living in! I love all of your work, but these are very special, very evocative.
@Tattered
Aww thanks so much! I need to edit the rest of the (digital) photos from this spot. Really sad it's gone 💙
