so why has President Donald Tantrump decided to allow the last nuclear arms limitation treaty to expire?
Obviously, that the Treaty was signed by "President Barack HUSSEIN Obama" played no part in his 'thinking'...
Nor could it be the imbecilic and demented malignant narcissist who occupies the Oval Office wrongly believes the Treaty actually imposes limitations on the number of Nobel Peace Prizes he may be awarded.
The limit of 1500 strategic nukes is more than enough to deter Putin, as has already been demonstrated. The paper bear may repeatedly threaten Ukraine and Europe with nuclear retaliation but, so far, has refrained.
BRD already has access to nukes (if not the detonation codes). One or two German-sovereign nukes built with U235 from Muenchen make no sense, strategically.

@PhilipCJames sure it's more than enough, it's not the point. russia has a slight advantage in that field now with their hyperspeed icbm, so the united states signal "cool, but i can literally wipe out every town if our radar shows your fast boy approaching".
it's a psychological thing. and no, i don't defend it, i just see the game.
Don't get taken in by Putin's hype. All ICBMs (be they MRVs, MIRVs, MARVs or unitary warheads) have been "hypersonic" missiles since they were developed in the 1950s/60s, as their warheads re-enter at summat like Mach 18.
#MAD is still a viable doctrine - questionable if it survives U.S. development of Donald Tantrump's Golden Shower (sorry, Golden Dome) system, but we've been here before with Reagan's #SDI ('twas more economic warfare than technological - as is #Trump's SDI 2.0)
Okay, Donald Tantrump will have his Fuehrerbunker; not sure he'll have his Walther PPK (convicted felons are usually not allowed to possess firearms); nor his trophy wife (Melania knows better than to enter his room alone) nor a German Shepherd called Blondi.
