Don't get taken in by Putin's hype. All ICBMs (be they MRVs, MIRVs, MARVs or unitary warheads) have been "hypersonic" missiles since they were developed in the 1950s/60s, as their warheads re-enter at summat like Mach 18.
#MAD is still a viable doctrine - questionable if it survives U.S. development of Donald Tantrump's Golden Shower (sorry, Golden Dome) system, but we've been here before with Reagan's #SDI ('twas more economic warfare than technological - as is #Trump's SDI 2.0)
Lo SDI degli anni Ottanta entrava in rotta di collisione con il Trattato ABM del 1972 che limitava i sistemi antimissile proprio per evitare una nuova corsa agli armamenti. Molti critici parlarono di una rottura delle regole condivise che avevano ridotto il rischio di guerra nucleare. La stessa questione si ripropone oggi con il Golden Dome di Trump. E rischia di far saltare il rinnovo del trattato New START per le armi nucleari, trattato che scade il 5 febbraio 2026.
Lo “scudo spaziale” di Reagan, ufficialmente Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI), lanciato nel 1983, fu molto criticato per una serie di motivi. Oggi Trump lo rilancia con il nome di Golden Dome.
Durante la Guerra fredda reggeva l’idea della deterrenza nucleare: nessuno attacca perché sa che verrebbe distrutto a sua volta (la famosa distruzione reciproca assicurata).
Lo scudo spaziale prometteva di rendere “inermi” i missili nucleari nemici.
