After ICE killed Renée Good and Alex Pretti, the Trump administration tried to tell us we didn’t see what we saw with our own eyes. Shane Snow’s essay breaks down how governments manipulate media to rewrite reality—and how to spot it before it can take root. https://thinkbigpicture.substack.com/p/ice-trump-pretti-propaganda-manipulation

@rusty__shackleford @georgetakei Noam Chomsky, lmao.
@mantis @georgetakei
Context?
Does that make the information presented any less true or factual?
What in your opinion is a better example/ analogy of the control the ruling class is able to exert on media and the people to manufacture consent?
I appreciate your input.

I would probably agree with most of Chomsky says regarding America & diverge regarding USSR, China and socialism as a whole.

However, given his recent ties with Bannon & Epstein, it's become very hard to just listen to the guy, he seems very much like controlled opposition, which is concerning if you wanna criticize a certain system through his "genuine" takes.

Fair
My approach is pragmatic.
Take German chemist Fritz Haber for example. Invented the Haber process, feeding half the world today, correlating with our population boom, & known as the father of chemical warfare.
Do we celebrate innovation or demonize the man?
Oftentimes life isn't black & white. I look at the "Five Filters" similarly, as a functional tool to understand media, regardless of personal associations. Since Chomsky is tainted, what’s a better alternative model?

@rusty__shackleford
Shoor, again, I am probably likely to agree with all of his takes regarding America and all. But the analogy is very much flawed. Haber was a great chemist, his fascist alliances didn't influence his research in a direction or the other and his innovations aren't categorically tied to one political ideology over another. You are harvesting his work in an area where his political views didn't, even it though could've, have an influence.

Chomsky is backed by the "deep state" and his views, while "critical" of the system, should bother you. If you want to explore more of what Chomsky really talks about, you can read about the Marxist theory of dominant ideology by someone like Gramsci (& obviously Marx).

I am just saying, take what he says with a grain of salt. The CIA's COINTELPRO is strong enough to have us believe in "radical" "leftist" talkpoints.

@mantis
Honestly, thank you for the reframing
