They just heavily gassed. Went thru my full face again. the medics were saying it was going through their masks too. There were very young children present. This is the road nearby ten minutes after the gassing started. The gas is still visible as I type this. Crowd regroup and energy is high. “Killing in the name of” now playing on loud speaker. More later nothing will upload not even pics

Will upload camera pics when I get home but for now here’s a pic on the camera. Pointing munitions at faces. Will share stuff as I can it took a million tries to upload last pic
People are dancing in the spicy air as roof cop feds shoot pepper balls
This far right ICE supporter came to cause problems. There was a scuffle and then he pulled out his mace. He’s still here.
Another very heavy round of teargas after a dumpster got rolled over onto the driveway of the ICE facility. Uploading anything is taking ages right now.

Didn’t realize I broke thread earlier. Still in Portland lol

That was a gnarly wave of teargas. No luck uploading anything and need to conserve battery. It cleared out a lot of people but still a large crowd remains
From that last wave of teargas. Videos are a little glitchy. Some photographers were complaining about issues with their cameras as well from the amount of gas.
Idk what’s going on today. I put in new filters this morning after they deployed HC last Saturday and gas was still seeping through my mask so I had to walk away. Both medics who helped me said it was getting in their masks as well.
This was the view after I moved away for some reprise. You can see after the flash bang grenade goes off a bird flying. Was a heartbreaking reminder it's not just people impacted by this but animals and nature too.
A little bit ago the feds were randomly shooting pepper balls from the roof, and then randomly shot off another single round of teargas into the crowd.
Someone got taken by an ambulance in a stretcher during that last heavy wave of gas. People are saying it was a resident in a nearby apartment.
I’m gonna have to call it for the night. That gas is fucking with me. Will update as needed if I hear anything.
Tonight’s collection of spent munitions

Idk if it’s the exposure to HC last Saturday in addition to all the gas tonight or what but I really don’t feel good and i have never experienced chest pain like this in my life. Others messaging me about how nauseous they are.

When I first got treated by a medic they wanted to rinse my eyes first. Which yeah, I couldn’t see, but it was mainly my chest. I couldn’t breathe and it was so painful. Felt better for a little bit, maybe was the adrenaline, but now it’s back and it’s rough.

Someone just told me that they saw multiple people passed out during the first brutal wave of tear gas when there were still a ton of children and elderly folks
There was a line of children waiting to get treated by medics
Terrible headache ✅
Nausea ✅
Chest pain ✅
Reports of people being shot with rubber bullets that had smiley faces drawn on them in sharpie

The feds shot out a local residents window this evening with these munitions that they also shot at people. I’m not sure that I’ve seen these before, does anybody recognize? (Not my photos)

One kind of looks like a 40mm foam round but that wood looking stuff??

There are photos and videos of the children who were gassed today and 💔💔 absolutely insane. Their violence truly knows no bounds.
Just reading so many accounts of people talking about rinsing out the eyes of their small children, or people who were there with their elderly parents who were vomiting as they were trying to get away

I’m so stuck on the amount of children teargassed. I cannot even imagine how traumatizing this must be.

There were so many children at the park earlier. There were thousands and thousands of people out. I didn’t see any children near the gate where I was standing but that didn’t even matter. The teargas reached the park, blocks away. More and more people are telling me their gas hardly worked.

Some of the teargas deployed tonight was expired. (They expire 5 years from the manufacture date)
Somebody sent me footage of the feds shooting out a local residents window. This was right after the first barrage of teargas was deployed. They told me “this was a deliberate attack and we were nowhere near the entrance (of the ICE facility).”

@alissaazar for accuracy's sake, mfg often refers to the manufactured date not expiry, I'm not an expert though

(also huge huge thanks for the information you're getting out, wishing you safety)

@bounding_star correct and they expire 5 years from manufactured date 😭
@alissaazar ahh makes sense. Quick bit of reading i did suggested when they expire they just are less effective, so seems like that's more of a downside for the cops?
@bounding_star hmm there are some reports iirc that suggest they are even worse. But I will have to look tomorrow or something haven’t been able to shake this headache and screen isn’t helping lol
@alissaazar @bounding_star Thanks for all you are doing to get the word out. Take care of yourself. Maybe get checked out after all that gas?
@alissaazar perhaps Im mistaken but doesn't tear gas break down into a more dangerous compound? With all the speculatory warnings over the years I wouldn't be surprised if I'm wrong but it's been in my head that expired is much more dangerous

@alissaazar What happens when the wind changes and the gas blows into say, a Christian nationalist church event or a politician's $10,000 a plate dinner funded by a developer?
@LukefromDC @alissaazar c'mon. We know the answer to this one. It's the protester's fault. If they'd just stayed home, none of this would have been necessary.

@LukefromDC it's Biden's fault, obviously 🙄

@alissaazar

@alissaazar
Remember that filters saturate and lose efficacy, generally around eight hours it so — if there's been a lot of gas, folks may not have been changing them enough.

@alissaazar
I hope you will get better soon.
It looks like civil war.
Your reports and photos are important, there will be a time 'after', and it will need your accounts to prosecute these thugs and their bosses.
Thanks for sharing. Keep save.

@alissaazar It kind of looks like a ceramic to me, which might be used for its heat resistance. Just one thought.

@alissaazar
I know wood baton rounds are a thing (used similar to beanbag rounds), but I don't think they look like that. Might be the backer for a foam round the with foam missing?

@dymaxion

It could also be a flash / oc / cs direct impact round too.

I couldn’t find much online that wasn’t the same stock photo. No diagrams or people breaking them down.

@alissaazar

@alissaazar a quick note from south africa. in the 80s the cops started dropping D cell batteries down the barrels of their rubber bullet guns. and firing that into the crowds
Everything old is new again.
@alissaazar Hope you're feeling better today. Thank you for your reporting!

@alissaazar

Have a question for you. Do the federal agents get a lot of exposure to the gas as well?

One would think that they are breathing some of it everyday. It must be having an effect on them too.

@mastodonmigration I know they have top of the line PPE, but it has to. HC also gets absorbed in the skin. A few months back one of the feds took off his gas mask because even with it on he was choking on the chemicals they deployed

@alissaazar

Interesting. Just wondering about the cumulative effect on them. When you read about soldiers in WW1 you learn about how they all went crazy from the gas exposure. That's in addition to the other physical health problems.

@alissaazar

So sorry to hear you are feeling poorly. Certainly cumulative exposure is a bad thing. Hopefully you will recover quickly. Take care Alissa. You are amazing.

@alissaazar there's so much I appreciate about your posting, and one small example is these photos. for me they constitute a precious glimpse into a world of productized military tools and weapons I could have never imagined outside an '80s political satire.

tl;dr thank you

@alissaazar https://www.msdsdigital.com/system/files/Defense%20Technology%201026%20-%20Triple-Chaser%20Separating%20Canister%20CS%20-%20US.pdf a safety sheet for the cs canister. Maybe useful, maybe interesting. These also apparently cost about 35 dollars each.

Edit: OC canister, so this might be wrong too.

@elebertus they used triple chaser CS too that’s what’s in the first pic. Thank you!
@alissaazar who makes these? Is there some factory in America that churns them out?
@Poljack defense technology / safariland
@alissaazar “Safariland”? Am I reading this right? Are they shooting actual hunting munitions at protesters?!?
@alissaazar Thank you. Stay safe. 🙏🏻
@alissaazar holy shit get some rest and decontaminate!
