@marcoarment the small thing I can do, and will do, is stop buying Apple hardware until he’s gone and his replacement demonstrates different behavior.

We’re in a regrettably historic moment and I choose to believe the small actions en masse can have a positive impact.

@marcoarment @KimPerales I have often been on the opposite side of your Cook critiques, but for Apple to start the week with MLK on the homepage and to end the week with silence regarding civil rights abuses and killing, while placating the authoritarian in person, those behaviors should define Cook’s legacy. Apple needs to strip the holier than thou marketing and own who they now are … capitalist and authoritarian to the core.

@Psimonkey10 @marcoarment @KimPerales All corporations are, and that’s by definition: their legal purpose is explicitly a “for profit” motivation. People who decide to gather for the purpose of benefiting the general public set up “public benefit” associations, not lucrative ones.
It is above naive to expect corporations and their leaders to act any other way: they would not be at their positions if their main motives were the public good.

@marcoarment people arguing with you are just wrong at this point: Cook supports trump. Stock price be dammed, we can handle pain in that departed. So many lives destroyed by ICE, and people are being executed. It’s literally the Gestapo handbook.

We’ve seen this in Europe: this is fascism. My grandparents lived it and warned me about it until their deaths. It’s happening right now in the US. It makes me so sad and angry.

I guess this raises the question I’ve been struggling with for over a year: at what point do we say “we’re done” and stop supporting Apple? I know one man is not the whole company, but do we really trust Apple to safely store our data if giving the government access is seen as “keeping Apple in a favorable position”??

@philmore honestly you should probably cancel all Apple subscriptions and purchases if you have any care for what happens outside the US borders too. Giving money to a company whose CEO is directly supporting a fascist is not a great look on any American.

@marcoarment I’ve been an apple fanboy now for several decades. Because of Tim Cook’s playing footsie with the fascist trump regime, as well as a significant downward slide in quality of software I’ve been entertaining the idea of switching where possible to Linux and OSS. I’m pretty much 98% there for laptop use, IOS replacement is going to be harder. I don’t see myself buying any more MacBooks at this point unless there’s a major turn around in multiple fronts.

@marcoarment these hollow critiques don’t mean anything to Tim. He doesn’t exist to make you happy. His job is to generate wealth for Apple’s shareholders. If you really want him to feel your pain, pull your app from the app store and stop buying Apple products. But that requires actual sacrifice to stand by your principles and we all know posting and podcasting about it is way easier.
