CFA should not be run on donations and must be fully government funded but here we are #auspol 🙄
Please donate to your local brigade if you can. Every dollar helps.

@deepfryed the vast majority does come from the government (page 64) https://www.cfa.vic.gov.au/about-us/publications/annual-report
More would, but we had farmers and UFU idiots on parliament steps for months complaining about having to pay the firefighting levy
@sortius my take is that CFA should NOT be a volunteer run service. It should be fully funded agency just like regular firefighters in urban areas. Yes CFA gets about 75% of funding for equipment, facilities etc
We need more frontline full time fireys even if remaining are volunteers.
We need more specialised investment in C130 Hercules type air tankers.
I don't support levy on farmers.. Everyone should bear the burden equally. Otherwise we won't have any farmers in 20 years. #auspol
@deepfryed oh, I don't disagree that there needs to be pay for firefighters when called out, more funding, and definitely more upgrades to the firefighting air wing - it's a special pet peeve of mine because most of the shit we got with much fanfare is no longer in Aus.
That said, the firefighter levy was vital for funding this.
Either you pay up, or defend your properties yourself; the old system.
Don't like it, don't farm, there's plenty of young people with agricultural degrees out there who'd love to take over a property and run it well
@sortius I suppose we can just jack up the train fares in the city to $50 to pay for the tunnels ? How about rural tax payers paying less medicare levy because there are less hospitals and health care facilities there ?
I come from a family of farmers, even though I would love to farm like my gramps, I know I'm not cut out for that kind of struggle and stress.
We don't have to make it harder on them than it already is #auspol
@deepfryed that's literally how it works. All properties pay it via rates. We just don't have massive properties in the city, so don't pay for the same acreages.
Farmers just don't want to pay their fair share, and that much was obvious when they marched on parliament to demand the levy not be increased.
Sorry, but what you're saying is bullshit, and the corrupt UFU fuckwits, and farmers cosplaying firefighters, on parliament steps, wanted to neuter that levy
Do people in flood prone areas pay extra levy for disaster relief ? or smokers / drinkers ?
I don't care what their positions on other issues might be, I support their position on the firefighting levy.
A separate rural levy to support CFA is a stupid idea and won't scale as the climate conditions get worse.
It might work if you're ready to pay $4 for a kg of flour and $5 for a ltr of milk, etc.
Everyone in the country benefits from food security. #auspol
@deepfryed yeh, they do, there's flood levies all over the place.
I get it, you're a farmer, you think the land is yours and everyone should protect you, no matter what. I ain't got time to debate someone who doesn't even understand how the fucking funding works
