Movie #1: The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King

Movie #2: Sentimental Value

Movie #3: Bugonia

Minor, vague spoilers in the second half of this review.

Movie #4: Marty Supreme

The one thing this movie lacks is literally anyone to root for 😅

Movie #5: 28 Years Later
Movie #6: Roofman

Movie #7: Avatar

And yes, it does still look incredible, and yes, you can enjoy movies more for their visual splendor. That’s like…part of the art form 😉

Movie #8: Hush
Movie #9: The Ugly Stepsister
Movie #10: Sinners
Movie #11: Shrek 2
Movie #12: Predator: Badlands

Movie #13: About Time

The sort of movie that makes you happy to be alive.

Movie #14: The Running Man
Movie #15: The Running Man
Movie #16: Edward Scissorhands
Movie #17: We Bury the Dead
Movie #18: Get Out

Movie #19: Resident Evil

Credit where it’s due, at least it’s not just rehashing the games

Movie #20: Resident Evil: Apocalypse

Okay never mind, the double header is cancelled, I can’t sit through another one of these if apparently they only get worse from here.

Almost assuredly the worst film I’ll see all year 🫣

Movie #21: Happy Death Day
Movie #22: Opus
Movie #23: Honey Don’t

Movie #24: Resident Evil: Extinction

God, I need to watch something good again.

Movie #25: Zootopia 2
Movie #26: Dune Part 2
Movie #27: The Visit
Movie #28: Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie
Movie #29: 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple

Movie #30: Candyman (2021)

My Nia DaCosta double header for the day is complete.

@matt_birchler I watch a lot of horror movies, and I am certainly not squeamish about gore or violence, but I thought it was really a bit over the top with the torture & cruelty in a few scenes. We could’ve gotten the idea without the extremes. It was my least favorite of all of the movies in the series, which is too bad because, as you said, there were a lot of really great, interesting scenes.
@matt_birchler Beautiful, I’m so glad you watched it.
@matt_birchler Pains me IMAX aspect ratio is still in theaters only :(
@tchaten @matt_birchler Oh gosh, yes - this would *epic* in the VP

@jonathanreed omg I swear I didn't steal this from you! Great minds 😁
@matt_birchler a few of those are in 3D on Apple Vision Pro - might make that a little more novel lol

@matt_birchler > Almost assuredly the worst film I’ll see all year

Sir, it’s March.

@DavidAnson Have you seen this film? 😅

It's genuinely one of the worst things I think I've ever seen.

@matt_birchler I have. Multiple times. :) I largely agree with you, but I have good news: the ones after it are better. Maybe not the sixth, but a few in the middle are better. None quite match the first, but that’s not uncommon for series.
@DavidAnson I think I'm going to give the 3rd a shot, but man oh man, I'm worried this is a Jurassic World situation…"this is as bad as it gets…oh no, the next one finds a way to be even worse!"
@matt_birchler I think you will consider the third an improvement over the second. Maybe even enough to give it the next rating up!

@DavidAnson lol I do think that "decent" is the best I can expect from this franchise.

I do worry that the laser room scene is the highlight of this thing and we're never getting better.

@matt_birchler never has a film franchise lost its way so fast and so badly as the Resi movies :(
@kanec It was really shocking. If I had known how quickly it would fall, I would have appreciated the first one for what it was more.
@matt_birchler I absolutely loved the first one when it came out despite how cringy it is now, but yeah I remember seeing some of the sequels and it was probably the first time I was truly disappointed when seeing a film
@matt_birchler blasphemy
@BenRiceM Ok so I am down to give one more movie in this franchise a shot. Is there one you recommend? The impression I've gotten from listicles online is that the first two are the best and it only goes downhill from there, which worries me 😅
@matt_birchler Oh I have no idea. I think I’ve seen them all and they’re probably all equally dreadful and entertaining

@matt_birchler I rewatched this a couple of weeks ago, and man, it’s really bad. Like, period-appropriate bad. Cringe in places.

I will still be watching allllll of the sequels. 😂

@matt_birchler !!!!!!!! You weren’t drowning in tears by the end of this one?!!!
@matt_birchler oh no way! I remember loving this film!

@matt_birchler The Running Man is so bad, it’s actually good. And it features Arnie saying “I’ll be back” in a non-terminator role.

Plus, having the capability to show the audience a deep fake is prescient.::

@matt_birchler the question is which one did you like more of the two terrible movies?
@tchaten I guess the original, but man, neither were my jam at all.
@matt_birchler oh damn this is a favorite of mine - rewatch it yearly
@matt_birchler I got this move on sale from iTunes from a 2 for 1 package that had Love Actually in it. Looking forward to watching it now!
@matt_birchler This was a fantastic movie, thoroughly enjoyed it.
