White folks in the U.S.: I encourage you to sit with the fact that this feeling you're feeling, that you could be gunned down by a cop for no reason without them facing any repercussions, is a feeling that every Black person living in the U.S. for the past 400 years has justifiably felt for their entire lives.
Resolve now that if we make it through with democracy intact, you will actively work toward a world where everyone can be free of that fear.
Don't forget.

I don't know what to make of someone who posts a reply like this as if it is some brilliant, insightful "gotcha" and then blocks me immediately.
As if the relevant factor for Black people's experience on this continent is when the Declaration of Independence was signed (and as if we don't know what year that was!) vs. when the first enslaved Blacks arrived on our shores.

I can't educate this fool since he blocked me, so perhaps one of you can explain it to him.

@jik ice aren't cops
@taylors sure, jan

@jik @taylors
ICE are cops

As long as the “good cops“ aren’t testifying against the “bad cops“ there are no good cops

@AccordionBruce @jik @taylors Pretty sure that's what "ACAB" means.

It's still true.
@mrt181 @aaron @AccordionBruce @jik personally I think ice are worse. At least the nazis had a clear agenda. Ice just kill for the fuck of it
@AccordionBruce @jik they aren't cops though
@taylors @AccordionBruce @jik No true Scotsman
@martinvermeer @AccordionBruce @jik sorry my good human, I don't quite understand your response :) can you rephrase please?
@taylors @AccordionBruce @jik You understand me perfectly well. Blocking offense.

@AccordionBruce @jik @taylors

The "system" under which ICE agents operate was brilliantly devised; a system that Goebbels would be proud of!

If I understand the system correctly, an agent is paid a signing up bonus of $50,000 however that bonus is repayable if they resign or are fired before they have served in their role for 5 years. This being the USA; a country totally bereft of any meaningful employment protection laws, presumably they can be fired at any moment on the whim of their supervisor and thus be liable to repay the $50,000 or be bankrupted. Life being what it is, I imagine that the $50,000 bonuses have long since been spent. So there we have it - a system that constrains agents to kidnap random people off the street or miss their quota, be fired and then be bankrupted!

@Paulos_the_fog @AccordionBruce @jik it's so fucked isn't it. I frequently call Stephen Miller Temu Goebbels.

@AccordionBruce @jik @taylors

What's the betting that the day before they hit their 5 years service, agents are fired - now hand back your $50,000 bonus!

@jik hey, I'm on your side :) very woke lefty right here 🖐️❤️
@taylors Again, sure, Jan.
I can recognize a troll when I see one, dude.
*plonk*

@taylors @jik ice are not law enforcement.

Ice is immigration and Customs Enforcement agency. They are not cops.

Their ranks consist of J6ers, Blackwater mercs, 3%, and general racist scum.

They can be prosecuted for their crimes committed at the state level.

@macacator @taylors Boy howdy, there sure are some reply guys in the fediverse
@macacator Blackwater hasn't existed since 2009. Perhaps you're referring to Constellis.
@Justin_Bailey different name, same mercs
@macacator yep, just wanted to let them know blackwater was has been gone since long after I was in Iraq. They were jerks to us as troops back then. They're a cocky bunch and WAY overpaid
@macacator @jik sorry I'm on your side here - I'm right with ya :) anyone working for ice deserves the Nuremberg treatment.
@jik ...absolutely true....

@macacator Perhaps you can tell me why the 1619 Project is so named
@jik never heard of it, but it definitely feels like we're still slaves, just under more subtle mechanisms.

Came here to say this

@jik I don't usually engage on these online topics, but...

May 13, 1985. Philly. Move.

I was 9. They dropped a bomb from a helicopter on a house and destroyed a whole city block. They also controlled the narrative. No cavalry came. No justice served. Just lives and property destroyed under the guise of a manufactured threat.

We're not new to this. That's why some of us are just detached from it all.

@jik

This is well said.

@jik disarming society, including the police and prohibiting the carrying of arms, as as the case in virtually every other country would be a good start.
The right to bear arms is from the days of the Wild West, 200 years ago.

Incidentally, most other countries also have a de facto right to bear their arms but only with a licence and only in certain circumstances. It’s not rocket science.

@jik I'm old enough to remember Philando Castile, a Black man murdered for legally carrying a gun, despite doing everything by the book.

@jik Trump's goal is the goal of his financial backers. That is to bring in the digital surveillance state, the Technocracy, by #techbros

#ICE is there to get Americans used to ppl being disappeared off the street or shot = to instill fear. Fear is necessary to either make Americans rally around the flag or fight as so called "domestic terrorists" - BOTH sides benefit Trump - civil war is the blueprint to get ppl begging for the #technocracy, which is the real purpose behind what ICE is doing!

@jik And also all the people who suffer under US military occupation. People in Iraq experienced the same treatment, only much worst plus bombings.
