@swachter Whoa, cool, I've never seen round patches like that before — looks so neat!

I always have the same go-to pattern, it's a bit more utilitarian. :3

@swachter I've never seen that darning method before!
@swachter That looks really cool. I haven't seen needle work like this before. Does the technique have a name? Is this a form of lace?
@jendefer I’m not sure about a name but it’s essentially concentric circles of blanket stitch, working from the outside towards the center. So the first few rounds are stitched into the edges of the hole, and at a certain point you’re kind of floating the blanket stitch in midair and using the next round to pull it taut until you meet in the middle.

@swachter Ah, thank you. With that name to go on, I can see about doing something similar myself.

@jendefer @swachter That’s such a cool website!
@jaseg @jendefer @swachter Indeed, very useful! To the bookmarks it goes.
@swachter Wow what's the process of this? Is it witchcraft?

@faket @rosareven

I mean yes everything is witchcraft when you get down to it

But I mark out a shape (or not) and use embroidery thread to create warp threads. I catch the undamaged fabric on either side and make a zig zag, spacing as closely as possible. Then I do the same thing in the other direction, weaving the needle in and out of the warp. Then adding other embroidery stitches as needed to tack the new fabric down or reinforce the edges - buttonhole stitch here for obvious reasons.

@swachter Thank you! I got a lot of broken clothes like ruined thighs in trousers and sock holes that I want to patch instead of throw away.
@rosareven Of course! Check out some of the books at your local library about darning or visible mending and you’ll get some great ideas! Hikaru Noguchi has a bunch but there are others!
@swachter that's the spirit!
@swachter I too want to learn the method
Tagging for #SolarPunkSunday, @swachter ! What a cool technique! (And yes, I have some pants like that as well...)
@swachter I wish I could fix pants. Fixing pants would be a great comfort.
@swachter Fabulous! ❤️
