raise your hand if you make less than a parking space πŸ™‹πŸ»β€β™€οΈ
@redsad I make slightly more than that now but historically I have made far less

@superviviansunshine @redsad

But surely you only work 40h/week at most.

That parking spot is grinding money for its owner 24/7/365ΒΌ a year, like a good serf in a capitalist economy.

(That being said, the problem isn't that parking spot is expensive, but that the land on the area is, and the value is mismanaged. Surely area with 27$ parking is an area that should have Moscow-style subways.)

@redsad the person who gets paid to watch parking spaces makes less money than a single parking space
@redsad
And that parking lot is treated as an asset by the person/ company that owns it.

Whereas every employee is treated as an expense.

@redsad

I never in my working life made more than half what that parking space does.

@redsad through some miracle I somehow make more than that, but there by the grace of god (and medication) go I
@redsad
At the current place I, as a senior data engineer, make less than that.
@redsad career goals: be an AWS Mac Mini
@redsad and that cash is 24/7, I only work 8/5 :(
@wikiyu @redsad the space won't be used 24/7 either

But it might reach 40+h/week if it's a good location
@redsad to be fair, i don't think that's enough to let someone park on me

@redsad Assuming this is in CAD.

The Australian National Baseline Minimum wage is lower ($24.94 AUD or 23.55 CAD).

That said this doesn't include the 12% mandatory superannuation contribution on top of minimum wage, or penalty rates. Generally even entry level jobs have a higher minimum wage due to awards. Casuals for instance earn an additional 25% on top of full/part time wages.

So in my case as a casual at a Maccas (McDonalds), I do actually earn more without taking super or penalty rates into consideration.

Now idk about net take-home income after tax, I know nothing about Canadian tax law.

@redsad I have made twice what that parking space makes on a regular basis and for short periods of time during emergencies up to 10 times as much. But those were rare and exceptional cases and I was worth it. The thing is, there is no actual human being who is doing any real work that isn't worth more than that parking space! Somewhere we did something wrong and we really should fix it.
