This is absolutely awesome! The @leavex campaign now has their website up an running, so we can see exactly which members of the EU parliament still support Musk's disinformation platform X, and avoid voting for them.

I hope @leavex expands to add every national parliament โ€” the disinformation has to end.

Se their excellent overview here:
https://leavex.eu/politicians/

Please boost this to support the campaign.

Thanks to @reithose, we already have the data for MPs in the Netherlands.

https://leavex.eu/politicians-nl/

You can also copy the emails from your selected politicians and send them a message.

Still work in progress! It took a lot of (spare) time to make as it is. Contributions welcome. Here is how

@randahl
Great initiative. Still needs to update some information, though. I happened to check on the Twitter / X account of @marketkag.bsky.social today, because she gave a speech in the EP calling on policymakers to boycott the platform, and indeed her account there recently declared an X-it. The campaign site still lists her as active.
But with some crowd sourced attention we can keep it up to date I'm sure.
@leavex

@pneutig @randahl @marketkag.bsky.social

The data we have was scraped from the official EU website a few days ago. Her profile was there.

We are updating the list of those quitting, though. Thanks for the info. :)

@randahl @leavex What about people who just let their account go inactive oh nevermind

@FrankHghTwr @randahl we need to improve the wording.

At the moment, 'Inactive on X' are those who declared to quit X by posting about it.

@randahl Can't he charged with election tampering he tries to buy elections

@randahl @chris

What about leavex.ca?

Iโ€™d love if this also included members of Universities Canada.

I think the domain is available.

@randahl @leavex It's really depressing that most of the German politicians not on X are Fascists

@randahl @leavex

Dann mal knapp 500 mails senden, he? Habe ich auch noch nie gemacht ๐Ÿ˜‚

@randahl @leavex no government official should be on X unless they are a Musk supported criminal
@randahl @leavex
Maybe below the leave x there should be a come to mastodon button?

@randahl @leavex

I support it but misinfo and hate are an inherent part of the internet. Of the ability for anyone to have a website.

The problem with corporate platforms (and mass media) is their ability to control attention. To decide lots of people should see the misinfo. Ultimately it means money can be turned into influence via ads, algos and owners deciding what gets aired.

Decentralized social media lets us decide together what gets attention. Trust the people. #DemocracyOfReach

@randahl
I'm glad politicians are leaving X, but I wish Mastodon was safer for minorities.

Unfortunately it will remain very "monochrome" until the abuse side is looked at more.

@roomey genuinely, where is safer for minorities than Mastodon? ๐Ÿค”

@randahl there are a number of places, the best way to find out is actually see where minorities are currently using for social media.

There was a push to move the BLM twitter movement to mastodon when Elon bought it out, but it didn't take. There was a lot of racist abuse sent, and at the time (and my understanding is it is still the case) the anti abuse features weren't up to the standard needed.

A lot of folk just left at that stage, to places like bluesky for example.

@randahl @leavex @magichopi Interesting that Hungary has the lowest fraction of MEPs on X ๐Ÿค”

@jknodlseder Orbรกn probably prefers VK.
(Russian social media platform)

@leavex @magichopi

@randahl @leavex

Are you prepared for many X'ers to come to here? That includes those that challenge narratives that are popular on this platform. I've been looking around a bit, it is a bit of a left wing echo chamber here.

@randahl @leavex is it not way better to keep your account on X open, with pinned tweets linking to Mastodon and BlueSky etc?

That way, your account can help to direct people off X and serve as an advert/signpost towards better social media.

@Killian Mangan๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ช An unused account won't do much, especially if the algorithm pushes it to the background.
@randahl @leavex I wonder which #mpโ€™s also have a blue marker and pays #musk every monthโ€ฆ! #x #grok
@randahl Funny thing is Polish members who stayed on X are mostly the โ€žpatrioticโ€ ones who often act slavishly towards the US and/or are pro-russian.
@oktawian it is soโ€ฆ weird. The Polish press should definitely ask questions about that.
@randahl no way, regular folks probably never heard about X
@randahl
This isn't as bad as I thought, but unfortunately the figures look worse when we only look at my Danish politicians.
@leavex
@randahl @leavex en France, peux mieux faire !

@randahl @leavex X is NOT NEWSWORTHY as Twitter once was .. all I have seen is word puzzles and games and alot of stupidity

and barely able to have any communication with those who I penpaled with for years

.. and there is MANY accounts of scammers and prostitutes ... and deleting several daily now for years .. and many accounts are using Musks name and his grok to hide under ...

Understand, @randahl: I follow you, I often agree with you, and I sometimes boost what you write. You are totally wrong to say that people should vote against legislators who use X/Twitter. Twitter is worse than it was but it still has value. Mastodon refuses to let us follow each other's Lists. Because Twitter/X wisely lets us follow Twitter Lists, we can quickly find expert opinions on the latest news. News broke out in Venezuela or Iran? I can quickly find what experts there are saying.

@RonSupportsYou @randahl

But isn't it the politicians who would be able to make change in mastodon development by being here not there and organizing for change?

@drdrowland Please restate your question.
I honestly do not understand what you asked.

@RonSupportsYou

Who can best make change in how mastodon works besides the politicians who would leave Twitter and join mastodon? The software engineers aren't doing it fast enough. In the hypothetical world where they all left and joined us they would be demanding improvements and organizing the people who could implement it all

Mastodon can have list following

Anyone, @drdrowland, could be on both Twitter/X and Mastodon. Both #socialMedia platforms have their good points and their bad points. I do not think that a politician would affect Mastodon. Beyond that, nations including France and Germany have pro-Putin politicians trying to gain power. That issue should affect people's votes, not whether or not someone uses Twitter.

@RonSupportsYou

My plan doesn't work if Twitter doesn't shut down and mastodon doesn't add features

@drdrowland A plan that depends on a successful business shutting down has little or no chance of success. How can mastodon be persuaded to add features?

@RonSupportsYou

I disagree Twitter is a successful company. Twitter is successful like the us regime is successful, by that I mean it's a criminal enterprise that would fail if it's criminal leaders were in prison.

Politicians taking up space and demanding institutions build on mastodon will add the missing features

My horizon for change is far away
@drdrowland I think that your reply was an unrealistic hope.

@RonSupportsYou

I hear you and choose to reframe your input to "distant hope"

I'm planning for next year when criminals start getting put on prison and laws start getting made again and Twitter's reign of terror is ended
