I can finally share a thing I did for @typotheque: an interactive visualization to explore their Zed Display variable font:

Typotheque: A typeface in four dimensions

Description: Zed is a font superfamily built on four variable design axes and spans more than 500 individual styles. This post attempts to make that vast design space easier to grasp.

Interactive fun on iPhone! Try swipe, pinch gestures, and scroll gestures.

Also works on desktop, just click-drag instead of swipe.

@justvanrossum aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
@justvanrossum I don’t want to call this porn for typography enthusiasts, but also I don’t know what else to call it
@justvanrossum @typotheque
love it 🔥 🔥
@justvanrossum Infinitely better than my accurate-but-traumatising diagram
@justvanrossum @typotheque This is super dope, and so much fun to play with! Congrats on successfully visualizing something *so* complex!
@justvanrossum @typotheque
Awesome!!!
How about a gesture-based interface?
@justvanrossum @typotheque I just saw this in the newsletter, so absolutely fantastic. I really think that for a large, multiaxis family like Zed, it’s a great help in understanding the potential of the typeface better. It’s fun and feels obvious, which I assume to mean this was an absolute ton of interface design work! Congrats.
@kai @typotheque the direct interaction design and implementation is mine, but the final look of the auxiliary UI (sliders, color pickers, etc.) was beautifully redone by the Typotheque team after my rather poor looking sketch.
@justvanrossum @typotheque You didn't lie when you said you did something cool! Great visualisation and playground and equally great subject in Zed. I do miss the icons though :D.
