Freshly graduated, full of CSS knowledge (as well as all the other good web stuff), and looking for a job:
Get her on board for creative, out of the box computerin', definitely for creative projects (but she might tolerate boring projects).
Taught by the best! (And me!)
I'm doing an online @fontra demo today at 22:00 CEST, in the Europe track of @Typographics' TypeLab.
Does anyone have a suggestion of an exceptionally complex font that I could use for a part of the demo? Think of very complex outlines, very complex designspace, many glyphs. (OT features not so much.) Let me know if you have something you can share with me, or know of something available online.
This morning, I submitted an almost-final version of my next book, Fine Specimens, ready for my editor to review.
Getting this done required a lot of late nights — not something I ever encourage. But I’m proud of what this book will (hopefully) be when it comes out next year, and very, very relieved. Not that it’s fully done yet.
I’m gathering a few thoughts about this to put in my next newsletter. If you’re interested in the book creation process…
10 minutes from now, TypeLab 2025 kicks off on the TypeLab Americas channel.

Still gathering Schrofer code … one recent update to @drawBot broke my original code for recreating the script patterns on the covers of Mouton's Les Textes Sociologiques series, but: revisions, et voila. Reconstruction, examples of the original covers, Schrofer's plan on graph paper, and a field showing the gamut of the variable font's horizontal/vertical stroke:counter axes.

MD Thermochrome v0.3 will be available tomorrow, and it’s a big one.
33 new styles. Four different italics. Very little regard for legibility.
I will be speaking in-person at TypeLab @Typographics this Thursday (6/26), 3:30pm NYC time. I will go over the tools used for making and using my typeface Velzyland, what worked and what didn’t work at different phases of the process, and the latest app support. From pen and paper to vector-based filters, font editing software and existing python libraries to custom scripting
Come hang in the TypeLab (free with RSVP) or watch online
