Does anyone know of an open source font with these characteristics:
- Is a variable font
- Uses designspace/ufo as source format
- Has one or more manually authored GPOS features that vary across the designspace
- .fea code is individual per source ufo, so does not use any variable feature syntax

BTW, this catalog is shown in @letterformarchive’s Online Archive. Here are some of the designs I haven’t seen from other companies:

Others are obviously based on existing metal type, such as those listed here: https://fontsinuse.com/foundry/4943/roman-scherer

Meant to send this right at the exact moment of sol doing its sticing, but I think I slept through it. Which is the best way to celebrate anyway. Happy solstice! The light will return. All the other stuff too, probably.

Variations of LTR Very Bauble, extremely well suited to this sort of thing. This was a cynical but pretty #ad: https://letterror.com/verybauble/index.html #solstice #lettering

Most exciting are the multicolor types and frames. I’m wondering if the UvA Special Collection might have any specimen books from Roman Scherer @MathieuLommen

Also, if there are any original designs among the typefaces, or if they are all based on existing led type. @fhardwig @typeoff

Also, most of my Latvian students have Windows laptops: without @fontra they effectively wouldn't have been able to participate. A free font editor which works on Windows is what I call a tool of empowering.
(Yes, I'm biased, but I’m also genuinely in awe with Fontra)
This week I wrapped up my short course on variable fonts for the Art Academy of Latvia students. My objective was very modest: just make some letters that move! But now I'm quite moved myself, seeing the result of their earnest, even if somewhat derivative, work.
Apropos, 7 out 11 projects were made with @fontra. And you know what? Having tried working with variable fonts in Fontra, I have no desire to get back to other font editors.

Spent four days in Stockholm working to finalize the typesetting for the Alphabettes Soup book with Bikini Books publisher Nina Paim and designer Tereza Bettinardi. 400 pages. 55 articles. 120 typefaces. 250+ contributors. This has been the most complex and humbling project I've ever worked on and I can't wait to share it with the world in 2026.
💚 Pre-order your copy and if you want to be listed in the book as a donor, there's still time to make a donation 💚https://bikini-books.com/products/alphabettes-soup

@alphabettes
