The US invasion of Venezuela is a clear violation of international law and the UN Charter. Celebrating the capture of Maduro, Donald Trump went further, calling it an “attack on sovereignty” itself.

Countries the world over must work together to rein in the United States before it’s too late.

The United States is a rogue state

Donald Trump’s “attack on sovereignty” in Venezuela has terrible consequences for the world

Disconnect
@parismarx not gonna happen. They can do anything with impunity. Trump already proved this locally and is now showing it globally. Rogue state with too much power.
@parismarx Not capture but kidnapping of a foreign head of state. Feeling nostalgic for when we bothered to pretend international law was a thing. 😿
@parismarx "Countries the world over must work together to rein in the United States before it’s too late."
Not sure exactly how you think they are going to do that...
@parismarx authoritarians around the world have been wiping their ass with the UN Charter, it means nada today.

@parismarx This claim seems like it deserves an actual quote of the man saying that, with the full context not just "attack on sovereignty". Yet I don't find one anywhere in this article and can't find one with quick search either.

Anyone got a quote of what he actually said here?

@crazyeddie @parismarx Trump had a slip of the tongue during the presser, after about 21 minutes. (Zoom into the bottom left corner.)

@Bluabirdo @parismarx I'm not sure that's a slip of the tongue actually.

He never tries to correct it. He seems to double down in fact.

Hard to say and we'll probably never know. If it were anyone else I'd say it's too ridiculous to think that's what he really meant to say...but he's that kind of monster and he didn't even blink over it.

@crazyeddie @parismarx He said the quiet part out loud but I don't know if this is intentional. The guy is incoherent, anyway.
@parismarx Trump always admired Putin and now he has joined him as one of the world's most dangerous despots. Watch out Iran, Canada and Greenland!

@parismarx

Why is the media and those who quote it, calling kidnapping a "capture"?

@pewnack @parismarx every single one, propaganda at its best

@parismarx

I suppose one must give his cabal kudos for getting there before Jan 20, anniversary #1.

"Countries the world over must work together to rein in the United States before it’s too late."

It didn't happen when the US illegally invaded Iraq, and it won't happen now either.

@Miro_Collas @parismarx that didn't happen because it was legally. The UN SC resolution called for provide additional access for UN MOVIC inspectors. And the only way to do it is by military force. France just read it with their lazy eye, never used their imagination.

@Helgi The UN was lied to by the US and the UK. Plus military force was not required to implement that.

@parismarx

@Miro_Collas @parismarx Saddam clearly refused any access and we have no idea if a serial liar is lying, right? Like Putin, why not trust his honest word he won't attack again, and embargo military aid for Ukrine, right?!

@Helgi Are you seriously trying to justify the invasion of Iraq? Wow!

@parismarx

@Miro_Collas @parismarx no, it should have been done back in the Desert Storm time because it wasn't invasion, it was defense.
@Miro_Collas @parismarx will you take your chances to bet Saddam could have voted against UN GA res. 68/262 same as Assad, Maduro, Kim, Ortega? Why would any Ukrainians not want him.. hang?

@Helgi What does Ukraine have to do with any of those other people?

Anyway, if you think the invasion of Iraq was a good thing, and legal, we have nothing more to discuss.

@parismarx

@Miro_Collas @parismarx Ukraine was taking part in that Iraqi UN mission, and those liberated Sadrists attacked our convoys. So I can't say I like any radical Shia islamists who force women to dress like penguin ninjas but Saddam would also support Putin, I know such types. The sooner they get whacked the better!
@parismarx First I want to see countries all over the world reining in Russia. As of today they have failed and that makes UN charter worthless. It's free for all and stronger dog fucks. It's China's turn now, future is bright, hopefully not too bright. Cheers!
@parismarx just imagine how this could be used against Trump! Putin comes to Alaska with charges from the ICC, why not arrest him? No way! Trump would say what, can't arrest a sovereign leader because he's not a killer and actually stable genius, right? It sounds collusion! Trump is his puppet biotsch!

@parismarx

The US, #Russia & #Israel are all rogue states led by war criminals

It is time the good people & countries around the world unite against them

@parismarx UN security council might have chances of reforming beyond amending its charter, which could mean that there is a way to take veto powers from those members that violate the charter.

Otherwise, the UN security council remains an ornamental diplomatic body without capacity to enforce sanctions on abuses

New instruments must be made to ensure multilateralism and accountability. There is no space nor time for letting maniacs in front of war-machines run wild

How to Reform the UN Without Amending Its Charter

Nonamendment reform can enable the body to meet the challenges of the moment when the Security Council is paralyzed by the veto.
