Made some cute little puffy emoji. They looked very chewy to me, so I called them Emochi.

Emochi

Does anyone even use iMessage stickers? I always make stuff like this for LINE, but I kinda gave up on iMessage stickers because the experience of using them + the financial turnout is disappointing.
If it’s not clear, the context of this is *directly* related to what I replied to, which is emoji I made. I’m not asking about if you use Memoji or photo-cutouts as stickers within iMessage. I’m asking if you use iMessage sticker apps.

LINE sucks as an app, but their emoji/sticker (stamp) feature is very well implemented.

Like standard Apple emoji in iMessage, whenever you type a keyword or phrase that corresponds to a LINE emoji/sticker, it appears as a suggestion as you type.

To me, the thing that kills iMessage sticker apps as an entire genre is the lack of this implementation. It doesn’t seem difficult to implement, but Apple has never done what actual users would find useful.

@louie Apple does seem to have implemented at least some of that. At least this custom Pizza sticker I made appears as a suggestion when I type ā€œpizzaā€ in iMessage.
@pb I assume that’s the ā€œAIā€ emoji (yuck), for which they know the keywords for?
@louie Yuck indeed. No, this is from a photo I took of a pizza I made myself. I never got a chance to tell iOS that it’s a pizza, so they’re clearly doing image recognition to generate keywords.
@pb ah interesting. huh.
@louie Yep, I use them irregularly and have installed a bunch of sticker apps.
@louie Yes with my friends and family. We typically ā€œimportā€ stickers from other apps like WhatsApp (am from LATAM) though or create cutouts of photos of ourselves.
@georgeperez so not really iMessage stickers as found from the App Store then.
@louie Unfortunately not, mostly created with the sticker tool inside Messages.

@louie I make my own dumb ones but never use the included or download ones

But weirdly enough on LINE I use them all the time and buy packs

@louie Nope, I didn’t even realize there were dedicated sticker apps. I might look into finding some good ones now that I know though. I do like using the photo cutout ones that I have (esp. when messaging my kid), so I imagine some fun + high quality ones would be fun to use as well.
@louie have a few packs, at a guess has used them once each and have never had anyone use them in a chat.
In concept I love them but usability sucks imo compared to Tapback emoji/reactions so I just use them
@louie My wife drew some and I uploaded them to the App Store just so she could have them. But it’s not exactly a booming business šŸ˜‚ I think a couple of her family members bought them just to show their support. Maybe 10 sales total over 5 years.
@louie I have so many of them, both free and paid. I’ve been a fan and collector for years. Recent iOS versions have made them even better because I can use them in new ways.
@dhpersonal in your perspective, how did recent iOS versions make using them better?
@louie - I can attach stickers to messages similar to Tapback emoji
- I can place stickers anywhere on the screen of a conversation, not just in messages
@dhpersonal I gotta be honest, I did not know you could do either of these things now. I mean, that’s great!
@louie I got a pack of the weirdly pedantic grammatical correction stickers mostly to annoy my kids
@louie nope. All the iMessage stickers I have are from apps just deciding to support it. Every once in a while I go through and disable them individually.
@louie I’ve bought and used a few, but mostly use the ones I’ve made of my dog or kid.
@louie I have an extremely limited number of (official?) PokĆ©mon-based ones that I trot out from time to time, but we’re talking like once every three months, tops.
