@adhd_coffee while I honestly want people to feel somewhat comfortable, I absolutely don't care for judgment so that doesn't work either for me 😅
what does work is e.g seeing it as 'prepping', enjoying the dopamine of working towards a goal, rather than maintenance
I actually had a small thread about this whole thing recently: https://mastodon.derg.nz/@anthropy/115707781744792118
@adhd_coffee Normal advice: If you have trouble keeping your house clean, hire a professional cleaner to clean for two hours every two weeks.
ADHD advice: If you have trouble keeping your house clean, hire a professional house visitor for two hours every two weeks, so that you will clean everything up the hour before they arrive.
@adhd_coffee absolutely! But also, like, I have ADHD. My house is occasionally a mess, I get fines for forgetting things (taxes, late fees, etc.)
I could be very mad and disappointed in myself. Now I'm miserable and self hating while in a house that's a mess and paying late fees and fines.
Why punish myself? Society already does it for me, one less thing to worry about. 😀
Best advice for a friend of a #ADHD person:
Text him/her that you will visit in three hours.
But don't show up.
He/she can thank you later.
Truth.
I think "functioning on fear" is a kind of self harm. At least for me, it's hurtful and since I started to really feel this I just couldn't anymore.
The only technique I have is "do stuff when it's possible".
I feel really seen here.
