@adhd_coffee Welp, I invited my best friend to move in. I'm fucked. lol
@adhd_coffee that doesn’t work either..mostly

@adhd_coffee while I honestly want people to feel somewhat comfortable, I absolutely don't care for judgment so that doesn't work either for me 😅

what does work is e.g seeing it as 'prepping', enjoying the dopamine of working towards a goal, rather than maintenance

I actually had a small thread about this whole thing recently: https://mastodon.derg.nz/@anthropy/115707781744792118

@anthropy oh, thank you for sharing this!

@adhd_coffee Normal advice: If you have trouble keeping your house clean, hire a professional cleaner to clean for two hours every two weeks.

ADHD advice: If you have trouble keeping your house clean, hire a professional house visitor for two hours every two weeks, so that you will clean everything up the hour before they arrive.

@log never got a better advice... from a log 😅
I might quote you in a future post

@adhd_coffee absolutely! But also, like, I have ADHD. My house is occasionally a mess, I get fines for forgetting things (taxes, late fees, etc.)

I could be very mad and disappointed in myself. Now I'm miserable and self hating while in a house that's a mess and paying late fees and fines.

Why punish myself? Society already does it for me, one less thing to worry about. 😀

@adhd_coffee

Best advice for a friend of a #ADHD person:

Text him/her that you will visit in three hours.

But don't show up.

He/she can thank you later.

@adhd_coffee so true. BUT stops working once you prepared your best friends for the mess. Better: invite work colleagues 🥹
@adhd_coffee Doesn't work. You invite them over to help.
@adhd_coffee Also even when I do find a system that seems to work, it's up in the air as to whether or not it will continue to work after the novelty wears off and some other shiny thing distracts me from it.
@adhd_coffee Sometimes the trick of thinking of myself as a zoo animal whose environment must be clean and enriching can help override the “well, it’s just me” excuse for not caring about myself. Therapeutic willful dissociation, I guess…?
@adhd_coffee also Body Doubling. very helpful for actually getting things done.
@adhd_coffee great life-hack. Works every time. Except: I have to get over inviting people over first..
@adhd_coffee I don’t have a crippling fear of embarrassment. I don’t think I’ve ever been embarrassed.

@adhd_coffee

I think "functioning on fear" is a kind of self harm. At least for me, it's hurtful and since I started to really feel this I just couldn't anymore.

The only technique I have is "do stuff when it's possible".

@adhd_coffee @joachim hmmmm interesting ! My HDAD teen has a messy room despite my asking a million times to clean even a bit, except when a friend comes over and he suddenly spends 2 hours cleaning every inch of his room !
@adhd_coffee living on "partner does the basic stuff and I get the dopamine deep cleaning tasks"
@Katiel @adhd_coffee omg yesssss I can cook meals for the week for 2hrs in the weekend but I'm unable to do it every single day

@adhd_coffee

I feel really seen here.

@adhd_coffee This explains my spouse to a T.
