Online shopping 2025.

🤵 Orders something online.
🏬 Want to track the order?
🤵 Yes!
🏬 Scan this code:
🤵Uh, okay.
🏬 Download our app to track your order.
🤵 Ugh.. alright..
🏬 Before you can use our app you need an account!
🤵 Never mind!

Data data harvesting, it's all data harvesting.

Now I feel stupid for downloading the app..

@stux

Enshittification continues apace...

@stux Agreed. Shop sucks so much. I groan every time I order something from a shop that uses it.
@stux you're not. they are for doing this.
@stux What gets me is shop.com and the like who recognise me by cc number and then send receipts to the last email they saw. That was fun this Christmas for gift buying. I've never set up an account or installed an app ner nuttin.

@Sempf @stux I gave a Square merchant without a receipt printer my work email address so I could get reimbursed for work travel expenses I had paid on my personal credit card.

Now that CC is linked to my work email at Square and every time I buy something at the local farmers market my work email gets the receipt.

@stux Yeah, the way to avoid that is "request desktop site".

@stux

Cancel the order.

@stux no, it's not alright !

No apps.

Only 17track.

@stux You don't know how hard I try to leave no trace like the amount of email aliases I have is diabolical like my aliases have aliases. People who use their tech and internet private and anonymously need to have patience of a saint
@stux In Capitalist America, package tracks YOU

@stux

I don't get it, don't they already have your information because you bought the thing???

@stux You're the product, don't forget.

@stux
Actually, the parcel services here in Austria skip the app step.

And you do get your basic data without registration.

But if you want advanced stuff like changing something about the delivery then they want a registration.

@stux Don't forget the onslaught of permission requests the apps shove down your throat
@stux
Step 1: any app I'm asked to download will be scrutinised six ways from Sunday in terms of what rights the darn thing wants. Way too many apps want access to stuff that they 100% don't need, except of course for data mining... Enshittification will continue until morale improves I guess.
