I am so stubborn about not using AI.
You have no idea.

I will even go as far as writing my own texts, drawing my own images, writing my own code, and reading the whole article or email just by myself. Crazy stuff.

#NoAI

I fear this joke will only be funny for like one year or two, and then nobody will get it anymore because it will truly be considered crazy stuff to write, draw, code, or read just using your own brain 🫠

I hate this AI-dystopian timeline

@Em0nM4stodon children are saying "that's AI" to fake or nonsensical things. If your product is synonymous with bullshit, it's probably not going to last very long.
I'm personally more concerned about the infrastructure we're putting in place for it. With so much higher education focusing on that, I don't think it will go away any time soon. I learned about "underwater datacenters" yesterday, and it honestly just makes me so angry.
@ashguy @Em0nM4stodon I heard this from some kids in my family last weekend. Kids know what's up. We're talking 5+ year olds too, not teenagers.
@Em0nM4stodon
Until society splits into the A.i.-loi and MoreLucks?
@Em0nM4stodon Na let's hope the Bubble Bursts early and AI will be as popular as the Blockchain is right now.

@Em0nM4stodon Same here, have not touched AI and will keep it that way.

I always say: "A text that is not worth writing is a text not worth reading." When one generates something using LLM's it takes the soul out of it. The personality is gone and replaced by something else that is not the 'writer' of the text.

#NoAI

@alterelefant @Em0nM4stodon I focus on the authenticity of the face-to-face interaction, at least till AI makes robots that can fake that, a bit of a while away. In Sydney, Australia, I participate in the local speaker's corner: https://soapboxspeakers.wordpress.com/

@mandarvaze Wow this is my kind of software. I'll have to try this. Thanks for sharing!
@Em0nM4stodon @mandarvaze I was really hoping it was real. Back to nano I guess.

@Em0nM4stodon
(I hope I'm not explaining the joke)
This is NOT real. It is made to appear like github README

It is part of asking AI to guess HackerNews page from 2035

See https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=46212180

Here it is: https://sw.vtom.net/hn35/news.html I downloaded the original article... | Hacker News

@Em0nM4stodon No, after a year or two everyone will be pretending they were always thinking the same as you were.
@dalias Gosh, I really hope so actually
@Em0nM4stodon I mean there's really no way for them to sustain the scam indefinitely. And once it's not subsidized by the next round of marks, nobody will be able to afford to pay for casual usage.
@dalias I fear they're just going after government contracts now.
@dalias @Em0nM4stodon i kind of think _no one_ believes in the AI thing, it's just something that is "popular because it's popular" and the stockholders don't want to "miss out."
@Em0nM4stodon Nah, the AI bubble will burst when everyone realises it nonsense. It’ll be like 3D TVs, it’s a fad that will go away in a few years.
@Em0nM4stodon It's not a joke as far as I am concerned.
My company is pushing us to use AI, even providing us with access to Copilot Pro (or whatever it is called).
I refused.
And got strange looks.
And got said "you should try you know, it's so great!".
Didn't answer with what I had in mind at the moment, didn't want to get fired.
@GuineaPig @Em0nM4stodon We should try a religious belief exception sometimes, something like "AI is a graven image of a soul", just for shits and giggles.
@emma @GuineaPig @Em0nM4stodon Or say worshipping AI breaks laws against religious proselytism in the workplace 🥲
@emma @GuineaPig @Em0nM4stodon En France je le mettrais sur le compte de la "laïcité" mais je ne connais pas le sujet au Canada, ce serait quoi l'équivalent?
Linux Foundation's Newest Endeavor: The Agentic AI Foundation

The Linux Foundation today announced it's formed another foundation under its growing umbrella that extends well beyond the traditional 'Linux' landscape: the Agentic AI Foundation.

@bcon @Em0nM4stodon Frightening corporate capture and utter disregard for the community that has no place in free software. Makes me feel ill.
@bcon @Em0nM4stodon Going to be a lot of embarrassed people when they realise that, actually, the emperor is not wearing anything. And the 'tailors' were corporate fraudsters of the worst kind.

@bcon @Em0nM4stodon
And why not?

We've got a Russian-controlled POTUS, Israel&Germany&US&UK&Canada&Australia doing genocide, and I'm just waiting for the Organic Gardening Society to announce a collaboration with Monsanto, Bayer, Shell, Westinghouse and Palantir.

So important to stay abreast of developments in the field.

@bcon @Em0nM4stodon all the horsemen of the apocalypse

@Em0nM4stodon I know. Ridiculous, right?

#NoAI

@Em0nM4stodon yes this exactly.

If i was using AI (like for end of year reviews at work) it’s likely a sign the underlying exercise itself is so worthless it wasn’t ever worth doing in the first place.

@Em0nM4stodon Hear, hear! I can do most things faster "by hand" than by trying to get "help" from AI. Just give me paper and writing/drawing tools!

I have yet to find anything that will darn my handknitted socks.🧶🪡

@Em0nM4stodon Back when I was young, and had to walk to school up hill in the snow every day, everyone had to do that (well, except for the code and email part, which nobody did); but now that machines will pretend to do it for you, why do you do this crazy stuff? :smile:
@Em0nM4stodon Me too. I'm a donkey on the edge.

@Em0nM4stodon

I like being a Power NonUser

@PeachMcD I love that maxim and I love this thread. Cheers

@Em0nM4stodon

The radio had a fluff piece today about trying to cut all #AI out of your life. They had a reporter who had previously tried to live according to Old Testament rules and wrote a book about that. The reporter was trying to do things like buy products only if they didn't use A.I. price adjustments. Basic participation in society was not plausible.

@Em0nM4stodon

I value your contribution. This reply is to let you know the character displayed as an object-not-found error (a rectangle with an X).

@VictimOfSimony

Here, it displayed as a round, melting face emoji.

@Em0nM4stodon

@VictimOfSimony @Em0nM4stodon the one I caught had someone who found their local water utility was using AI, so to be AI-free they would have to not use water. Well, not from the utility anyway; they’d have to find another source and use a lot of buckets
@Em0nM4stodon Co-pilot is always asking to rewrite my stuff, even short emails. Irritating. ⌨️

@MartyB4 @Em0nM4stodon Half the time it isn't even grammatical. (Not copilot, but other LLMs shoehorned to other tools. I don't touch copilot, ten foot poles accounted for.)

I spend more time correcting the "corrections" than I do writing in the first place, but there's no way to be rid of most of it.

@MartyB4 @Em0nM4stodon It's a plague.

There is a brand new fork of the Calibre eBook reader called Clbre. Because it's Calibre without the AI.

Why the fuck does an eBook reader application need AI? You tell me, because I don't have a fucking clue, unless the author thinks Calibre users are so stupid they need an LLM to summarize BOOKS THEY ALREADY OWN to them.
@MartyB4
A simple solution, switch it off.
@Em0nM4stodon

@Em0nM4stodon Heresy !!!

You shall devote your life to the AI slopery slope !
