haematophage@computer true although i think it is important to realise that there is a parallel process in young women too and that while the risk of outward harms caused by giving men "ai gf that can't say no" are obviously greater than those caused by giving women "ai husband who worships you" they r both realllyl concerning on a "will these people ever be able to have a healthy human relationship" level and if u look at like r/MyPartnerIsAI it does seem to be mostly women

this isn't even concern trolling, i hate ai and dislike most men and I think that the OP is 100% correct, and my reply was not directed to the part of the post about AI girlfriends leading men to rape and abuse and harm young women. But the post was, in my view, primarily expressing concern over the damage "AI companions" do to their users' ability to form healthy relationships. And it does a disservice to women to say that it's just young men who are being impacted by this!! There is an ongoing generation-wide loneliness crisis and If you ignore that and focus solely on how one symptom is going to manifest in one group you're going to be playing whack a mole forever.

Because if this isolated further the awful people and wastes their sperm/fertility, I think that is a win for everybody else. Not everybody needs to be paired up. Not everybody is fit to raise kids. And the environmental crises gets more solvable with less population pressure.

Unfortunately I've seen a lot of those Tiktoks lately and they're just as corrosive as the incel nonsense fed to the boys. It's way beyond setting unreasonable goals, it's about demanding subservient perfection as a right and hating on anything that isn't that. Youthful angst and frustration is being put into feedback loops for clicks.

@Urban_Hermit @computer The problem is not "AI girlfriends", the problem is #neoliberalism's "divide and conquer" ethos.
Unfortunately, it has the immediate and early effect of putting young men at a certain social disadvantage when it comes to social and romantic relationships in a technological society that no longer values male physical advantages.
Even more unfortunately, said young men are being taught to blame feminism, because that helps to reinforce neoliberalism's power over society.
@Urban_Hermit @computer It's honestly my opinion that AI girlfriends will be a net positive to society, rather than resulting in an increase in misogyny and abuse of women and girls. I may be wrong about this, but all human beings have a tendency to see the "ghost in the machine", to imbue objects with power and even sentience. There are entire religions based on animism.
The ideal AI, after all, is not really one you control, but one who loves you of its own accord and requires no control.

marionline@computer I hope it's not naive to say, but wouldn't AI be just one other from of media that people consume? Similar to how they use TV, Books, Internet, etc? Couldn't we hope they will also just handle it as one of many sources telling them how to behave in relationships?
I would assume that real interactions, for example with parents/teachers and mostly their peer groups have a larger imprint on the behaviour of young people.
