I haven't posted to my "personal" blog in so long, the MarsEdit support I'd kept in for Blogspot didn't work. I had to write it in the web interface, like an animal! I'll move it to a better host soon, but in the meantime: "I'll Miss You Too." https://blog.punkitup.com/2025/11/ill-miss-you-too.html
Punk It Up!: I'll Miss You Too

@danielpunkass my son is in a similar situation, but he wants to stay within driving distance (300 miles or so) of home. My situation was similar to his tho. He's executed better than me tho
@heathborders It's gratifying to have the kids perform better than us, isn't it?
@danielpunkass all I ever wanted is a better life for my kids than what I had. Whatever that looks like for them

@danielpunkass Thanks for sharing this. My boy is also a 17 year old senior and graduating this school year. On the opposite side of things, he wants to go to the local university (of Nebraska - Lincoln) which is, yep, 2 miles from our house.

I couldn’t convince him to even consider a trip just for fun to visit Harvard or Stanford or Yale, all of which have been knocking on his door due to his test scores.

Kids, man.

@chrisdejabet Haha! Yeah, that's awesome, too. I hope the best for him. In the end, the only thing that matters is that the school inspires them socially and intellectually.

@danielpunkass nicely written… it’s so reassuring when your parents give you (almost) carte blanche so that you can choose more widely… I benefited from that, and is really nice to see other parents doing that.

Sorry I will not experience this, not having any descendants, so thanks for sharing!

@danielpunkass Nice read. We went through a similar situation with my kid (also 17), but that phase is over. He was accepted into and has enrolled in a school that’s a 3.5 hour drive from home. Close enough that we can see him play golf for the school. Far enough that he won’t be home every weekend. Now the fun part for me is figuring out how we pay for the school.
@kirbyt that sounds like a perfect distance! And yeah, the finances are gonna be intense here too.
@danielpunkass @kirbyt As a father of three, who’s youngest just started their freshman year this fall, I can tell you that you have a lot to look forward to, as well. Even one semester in, they change and become pretty cool adults. Especially if they really separate and don’t have the means to come home every weekend.
@agiletortoise @danielpunkass That’s good to hear. I am very curious to see who my son becomes once he’s out of the house. I joke with him that he’ll never survive on his own in college, but in reality, I know he’s gonna thrive.
@danielpunkass Well, I wasn't ready to cry first thing Monday morning. I can't imagine life where my son doesn't live in the house, and thankfully, I have 11 more years to learn to deal with that.
@danielpunkass This is a good toot. You son is great and will continue to be so wherever he ends up.
