I think having an ASN would fix me 😌
…I don’t suppose anyone following me can help with getting me an ASN (at RIPE, if I understood correctly)
Okay, Anycast any% letsgo
@fasterthanlime happy to answer questions as someone who did just this from 0 a month or two ago

@whitequark any realistic edge providers besides Vultr? (and excluding big dedicated nodes?)

I emailed HostHatch to ask what "additional costs" means, we'll see.

@fasterthanlime rn i'm using Rage4 because i don't anticipate having the resources to get a /24
@whitequark right! I found some /24 for ~90$ a month on IPXO, much lower than what I thought it would be.

@fasterthanlime @whitequark IPXO's typical customer base is a bit of a cesspool, FWIW.

My immediate reaction upon seeing that name is "blackhole".

@ryanc @whitequark What would you recommend for IPv4 leasing? cause... you have to get them from _somewhere_
@fasterthanlime @whitequark The only IP leasing companies I'm aware of are the ones on my shit list. Digital Energy Technologies is the worst one, if they still exist.
@ryanc @whitequark I mean, yeah, the people who can afford to spend 7k on a /24 are probably less likely to cause trouble than the ones who are leasing it, but I don't think I want to invest into IPv4 that hard right now x)
@fasterthanlime @whitequark Leasing it from your upstream is probably the best way to get IP ranges that aren't radioactive.
@ryanc @fasterthanlime @whitequark if you need to lease from not-your-ISP I recommend Cogent. Yes, that Cogent that sells budget bandwidth.

I don't recommend IPXO for various reasons too.

@fasterthanlime @neel @whitequark I don't like Cogent for various reasons, but I wouldn't blackhole them, so...
@ryanc @neel @whitequark What are your feelings about https://interlir.com/ ?
@fasterthanlime @neel @whitequark never heard of them which is a mildly positive indicator
