Sad to post that my dear black lab Jet passed away this morning. It was a peaceful farewell, and I find some comfort in the words of Agnes Sligh Turnbull: "Dogs' lives are too short. Their only fault really."

You were a good dog, Jet, and I loved our life journey together, and learned so much from you. See you on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge, old pup. 🌈❀️ 🐢

@tallandtrue

I’m so sorry to hear Jet has passed away. You’re right, their time with us is always too short. πŸ’”

@KimberlyN The vet was wonderful and kept asking if I'd longer with him. "Yes, another 2 years!"

@tallandtrue

Oh I'm so sorry... Figured it was coming at some point from what you'd said yesterday, but perhaps not quite so soon.

"Yes, another 2 years!" - isn't that the truth... The time we have is never long enough with them, but the two of you have had extraordinary adventures and good times together, so there's lots to treasure. Take care... πŸ’” πŸ™

@imalcolm Thanks, Ian. Jet had been slowing down for a while, and he had laryngeal paralysis which was never going to get better, but we managed with steroids. When he started peeing "claret" on Sunday, I knew there was a chance his time was sooner rather than later. But in the past 24 hours he deteriorated, started collapsing, so I knew today's vet visit would probably be my last with him. I was there at the end, and left him looking like he was having a pain-free sleep. ❀️

@tallandtrue

Oh poor Jet, those are biggies on the "impending signs" side. πŸ₯Ί

It's always hard in that situation, but absolutely the right course to take. β€οΈπŸ«‚

@imalcolm Thanks, Ian. I keep thinking I could have nursed Jet for another week or maybe four, but the result would have been the same for him and me. It was his time, and I was always going to be gutted (as I am writing this response!).
@tallandtrue Oh,I'm so sorry. It's just devastating when they leave us. I so enjoyed following Jet's travels through the Outback. What a special time he had with you.
@juliew2010 Thanks. I've still got a Part Two blog post of our adventure to share, our time in Uluru, and on the road back to Sydney. It will be hard to write the post, without him lying beside me!
@tallandtrue It's the 'nothing' moments that really hit hard - you're making a cup of tea and there's no tap tap of claws checking out what you're doing etc. It's 8 months since my Poppy died and Pearl and I still look for her every day. Take care and big hugs.
@juliew2010 Yep. I came home tonight (after walking the block by myself) and missed Jet's snuffling under the door to sniff if it was me who'd come through the front gate. ❀️

@tallandtrue I am so very sorry ... I wish you peace and comfort in the coming days with your memories of Jet, who was the bestest boy. πŸ’–
@Lorraine Thanks. And I agree, Jet was the bestest boy! ❀️🐢

@tallandtrue
Please accept our condolences and this copy of 'The Bridge' that my wife found some years ago. Loved all of the adventures in the Outback.
@tallandtrue So very sorry for your loss; he was a beautiful dog and obviously much loved.
@macquilter Thanks. Jet was a handful when I adopted him. But we forged a bond through learning how to live with each other. And I loved him, and he loved me, is his doggy way. ❀️

@tallandtrue

So sorry for your loss. πŸΎπŸ’”

@tallandtrue Sorry for your loss πŸ’—
@mj12albert Thanks. πŸ™β€οΈ
@tallandtrue only seeing this now.. sorry for your loss

@bazkie I don't believe in Heaven and Hell, but I wouldn't mind meeting Jet and my other dear old labs on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge! ❀️🌈
