Today is Equal Pay Day, a day later than last year. It is the day to which women must work to earn the same as men did working to Dec 31 last year. Women earn 81 cents for every dollar men earn. Down from 83 cents a year ago, and 84 cents the year prior.

SO... I was thinking about finally giving up and deleting my LinkedIn profile in the last couple of weeks.

Not that it has ever helped me before, but I am glad I didn't. I need to update it. A lot. I've done up my CV tonight.

Meanwhile... if anyone could use an experienced technical employee based in Wellington (remote work is fine), do let me know.

My short CV - I'm not a programmer, not a database designer, not a data engineer, not an architect, not a technical writer, not a web coder, not an automation expert, not a trainer. But... I have done all of those things many times. If there were a requirement to be any one of those things full time, I have no doubt I could get up to speed quickly.

My primary role in recent years has been technical support, mostly of a platform but also various technical users. I'm pretty good at this, if I say so myself.

I'm also a fabulous communicator in person and in writing. Not my judgement; people tell me that. Have done for years. (Ask me about that time I had dropped on me the need to train 100+ developers and testers in new tooling and I had to develop and deliver a complete training course in a few weeks.)

There's a small chance I will still have a job in 6 weeks but, the way things look now, I do not want it. What is being proposed is unreasonable and any residual loyalty to the company I have given 15 years has just evaporated. Actually, it is not at all the same company I joined back then. It is a shell of its former self and a lot of us have no confidence in the leadership.

I'm in my usual stage of agonizing about how I want to quilt this Exploding Heart quilt top. It's to be a wedding gift, and I always go through agonies of indecision when deciding what to do about quilting motifs. This one measures 72" x 72”, so it will be a challenge on my domestic machine.
You can judge a family by the company it keeps.
#DogsofMastodon Public Service Announcement: Flea season is approaching in the west and is likely here in the #PNW due to a mild mild winter.
All corporate flea medicines are pesticides. but some of the new ones - that your Vet will tell you are perfectly safe - are incredibly dangerous. Specifically products containing Isoxazoline (brand names: Bravecto, Nexgard, Credelio, and Simparica (brand names for fluralaner, afoxolaner, lotilaner, and sarolaner)). Credelio ultimately killed my 10 year old shitzu but he suffered along time with severe neurological issues - we had to retrain him on how to drink water and eat food, that's how toxic this shit is.
Please please consider other means of flea control for the pets you love.
Here is an article that explains some of this: https://vetmed.illinois.edu/pet-health-columns/fda-alert-on-flea-medications/
And here is an article from 2018 (they've known this for along time!): https://www.today.com/health/fda-warns-about-flea-tick-products-containing-isoxazoline-t137954

No matter how stealthy I try to be, no matter how deeply Chouchou appears to be sleeping, she immediately awakens when I point the camera in her direction. She always looks at me as if to say, “Why do you torment me with that thing?” #DogsOfMastodon #Dog
Seems to have fixed itself with a restart.
