My latest update on nextgen Covid vaccines is a whopper, in part thanks to catching up with a new vax tracker:

- Clinical trial results for 2 vaxes

- 3 new clinical trials, incl a phase 2 intranasal vax trial in the US – and a pancoronavirus version of a vaccine that's already been rolled out

- 26 preclinical reports, with more showing prevention of transmission &/or durability

- a shelf-stable mucosal vax

A Bumper Update on Next Generation Covid Vaccines (No 34) - Absolutely Maybe

This was always going to be a big month, with results from clinical trials of 2 vaccines, as well as 3 new…

Absolutely Maybe

@hildabast @PLOS

Thank you once again 🙏

Interesting to see the Oxford vaccine repurposed as mucosal (if I understood correctly?), wonder if other injected vaccines might be reworked?

Hope we get something with long term protection from infection and/or long covid soon 🤞

@FediThing @PLOS Thx! Not the first preclinical study for a mucosal version of the Oxford vax.

The question is who would pursue it. (There was a preclinical study of a mucosal version of the Moderna vax, too, but they invested elsewhere.) Hard to know who's tried, because often wouldn't be published.

@hildabast @PLOS Too bad none of them will ever be approved in the US as long as worms for brains is in charge of HHS.
@hildabast @PLOS Curious that covid is orange.
@hildabast @PLOS soon I'm going to need to find out how to get these vaccines! I'd be willing to pay or travel!

@hildabast @PLOS

What are the chances of a private vax in the UK that's more like the ~£15 of a private flu vax and not the current ~£100 for a private Covid vax?

While we wait for a cheap, pan-Rona, nasal vax that prevents infection.

@jbond @hildabast @PLOS cell given the JVCI assume that the NHS can get one of the current COVID vaccines for £25 (I don't know what the NHS actually pay) then surely the NHS could let the rest of us have them at cost if they aren't prepared to vaccinate everyone for free?
@jbond @PLOS I have no idea, sorry.
@hildabast @PLOS been waiting for these mucosal vaccines and not just for covid!
@hildabast @PLOS shot-phobic person very much looking forward to an intranasal option

@hildabast THANK YOU SO MUCH for this!!!

I am so grateful that so many researchers out there realize that #CovidIsNotOver - and to you, for tracking it for us! This is wonderful!

@hildabast @PLOS

... i am having a hard time keeping track of which vaccine is which! looking for the bi- and trivalent subunit vaccine tried in mice and humans reported in nature from xiawei wei and colleagues at (i think) west china hospital
