Zohran Mamdani won young men 18-29 by 40 points.

40 POINTS!

And he did so by standing FOR economic justice, FOR Trans rights, FOR immigrant rights, FOR labor rights, FOR Palestinian rights, & FOR diversity.

All the Corporate Democrats who said Dems can only win by by "running to the center," or "siding with Israel on Gaza" or "not being distracted by the Trans issue," should shut up & have the humility to listen.

Zohran is what happens when you run FOR justice rather than just against Trump.

@QasimRashid
Agreed. I'm excited for Mamdani and New York.

I've seen some really annoying commentary (looking at you, NYT) claiming that Democratic wins are a result of "moving away from the Democratic party's far-left policies". Bullhockey.

To me, it looks far more like both major parties have been captured by corporate money for many years (and the GOP by vicious authoritarians), and these Democratic wins reflect people choosing candidates who want justice and equity.

I don't think a third party has any chance in the US, but an insurgent takeover of the Democratic party by people with actual democratic ideals is seeming increasingly possible.

(Always assuming that we still have meaningful elections going forward.)

@n1xnx @QasimRashid In any other part of the world, the Democratic party would not be considered left, let alone far-left.
@n1xnx @QasimRashid Most attempts at “moving away from the Democratic party’s ’far left’ policies,” are either vapid and empty or at best Eisenhower Republicanism.
@QasimRashid To be fair, being "for justice" and "against Trump" are highly congruous positions.
@maccruiskeen @QasimRashid You’re not wrong, but… there is something to be said for presenting some alternative beyond “not that shit.”

@QasimRashid

This is a lesson that Keir Stalin will never understand.

@QasimRashid Corporate America is dying. It all started when they moved factories abroad, leaving the working class behind. Now they’re in the “find out” phase of FAFO, ant they’re trying to convince everybody that “don’t worry, everything’s alright, just keep doing what you’re being told”. But people with a bit of brain can’t trust them anymore. I’m glad a step was made. Keep fighting, America. You now know the way. 😉
@QasimRashid we have such a man in the UK, Zack #Polanski xx
@QasimRashid
Dem pols don't say that stuff because they actually believe it. They say it because they are paid to prevent any leftist economic policy from becoming reality.
@QasimRashid
Solidarity is the key. Humanity is the key.
@QasimRashid This is what hsppens whenvyou give people something to vote FOR, rather than against.
Labour in the UK are being abandoned in droves because their motto seems to be "vote for us, we're not quite as shit as the Tories", while people are flocking to the Greens because Zack Polanski is offering a genuine, progressive alternative.

@QasimRashid In the words of Scalzi.

"If what the DNC and others in the Democratic party, and the general pundit class, are taking away from Mamdani’s win is oh, no, a Muslim socialist rather than looking at the mechanics of how he won and won a fucking majority of votes in a mayoral election with the largest turnout in decades, then they are stupid and need to stand aside and let others lead."

Thoughts From an Off-Off-Year Election, 2025

Well, that was an evening, wasn’t it. Zohran Mamdani won decisively in NYC, of course, and that was the headline event in terms of optics, but then there was everything else, that went the De…

Whatever

@baishen @QasimRashid

They are not stupid. Please, please stop assuming this is some kind of foolish mistake.

They know damn well that socialism is a deadly threat to their purse strings. They are actively, maliciously, and deliberately trying to not only avoid, but outright sabotage and destroy the strategies that would get huge voter support.

Helping people and curbing the abuses of big moneyed interests are anathema to these assholes. They don't WANT to win. They want to hamstring us and feed us to the fascists, on purpose.

@violetmadder @QasimRashid Scalzi talks about that in the blog post. How Dems campaign to not lose instead of to win. People are demanding more and leadership needs to understand that or GTFO.

@QasimRashid I also think this enforces the reality that if the Democratic Party is a “big tent” party, the national committee needs to remember that each member or location will have its own priorities, even while supporting the national ones.

But I do hope the concept of running for something rather than against something does take hold throughout the party.

@Sckenai @QasimRashid They should probably focus less on shrinking the left side of the tent while trying to stretch the other side over nazis.
Democrats Shocked By The Landslide Election Of Left-Wing Candidate Offering Left-Wing Policies To Left-Wing Voters

CLANCY OVERELL | Editor | CONTACT After months of being rubbished by the American media and the Democrat establishment, US politician Zohran Mamdani has today won the New York mayoral election. Mamdani, a proudly socialist 34-year-old, has defeated New York Governor Andrew Cuomo 49.6% to 41.6% (at time of publishing)

The Betoota Advocate
@QasimRashid Socialism hits hard with young men.
@QasimRashid FOR good things will always resonate. The issue now is to ensure that he implements them
@ArchaeoIain You're absolutely right; good ideas only have meaning when they're actually implemented. I hope he can put these ideas into action and make the results even more impressive.
@QasimRashid The only ones at risk of being distracted by “the trans issue” are Republicans. Not that they have any genuine winning policies other than hate, but trans-hate is demonstrably not a winner in the face of failing economic policies, and… (gestures broadly) all the rest of this.
@su_liam many democrats have also recently decided "we need to abandon trans people, republicans hate them so we have to do this to appeal to republicans"
@QasimRashid almost as if actually standing for something gets you votes

@QasimRashid

Maybe, and hear me out because this is pretty extreme, Democrats have better electoral luck by appealing to Democratic voters and supporting Democratic priorities instead of trying to appeal to Republicans.

I know, I know, that sounds crazy...

@QasimRashid So, the communists are coming for my stuff? Great! I've been wanting to de-clutter.

@QasimRashid

Too often the dems have been offering themselves as republican light, still right wing, but just slightly to the right of fascism.
