This is honestly the best thing I have read about the US in months. We look from abroad and wonder where the hope is. Read this. Now.

AI cannot automate science – a philosopher explains the uniquely human aspects of doing research

While AI can streamline certain parts of the scientific process, a philosopher argues that it cannot replace human expertise and collaboration.

Brilliant article. “Our culture is cosmopolitan because we are a cosmopolitan species. We are citizens of the world, not nations, to paraphrase both Socrates and Thomas Paine. What has allowed us to thrive, physically and culturally, is not our rootedness but our mobility. Without it, we would already be extinct.”

All of our religions, stories, languages and norms were muddled and mixed through mobility and exchange throughout history

A quick list of common vaccine injuries:
- becoming an adult
- having to go to that social event you hoped to miss
- still gotta go to work
- both legs remaining functional
- getting stuck with only a measly a day of fever instead of a week of heinous illness
- getting an ouchie on your arm
- leaving the office with a Snoopy band-aid like a total child
- missing out on the opportunity for cervical cancer or dementia

Good. Though I am tempted to “write” a swathe of romance novels (a genre I loathe) with AI and see if I can make some spare cash. I mean, they are so incredibly formulaic, ChatGPT would likely be a better writer

New Nebula Awards Rules Forbid Nominees That Used GenAI

GenAI and LLMs almost got a soft pass to enter the Nebula Awards, but the sci-fi/fantasy writing community shut that down.

What scientists found inside Titan was not what anyone expected

For years, scientists thought Saturn’s moon Titan hid a global ocean beneath its frozen surface. A new look at Cassini data now suggests something very different: a thick, slushy interior with pockets of liquid water rather than an open sea. A subtle delay in how Titan deforms under Saturn’s gravity revealed this stickier structure. These slushy environments could still be promising places to search for life.
