It has been incredibly sad to watch this #NZPol govt default to racism, victim blaming and division as a way of distracting the #Aotearoa #NewZealand public from their colossal social and economic failures since taking control in late 2023.

As a pākehā NZer, born in the 60's, I have witnessed the slow but mana enhancing transition of this country in its attempts to right the wrongs of the past.

In many ways there's been efforts from both right and left politicians to #ToitūTeTiriti. No matter how inconsistent it has been it has always felt like slowly but surely the NZ public is becoming more aware of its obligations and failings of the past and moving forward.

Under this #Luxon led govt of neoliberal racist oligarch enthusiasts turning the clock back to a time before I was born, I no longer recognise the country I was born as Tāngāta Tiriti.

I want to know from #NZTwits how we collectively stop this from continuing and what we must do to turn this shit train around?

1 vote them out
2 never vote people like them back in
3 trust that youth know better than my generation (most of mine)

Also, call out any and all casual #racism.

I was recently talking with a NZ business man I know (of my age) about advice on the possibility of doing business with someone they also knew.

I was absolutely astounded when he casually said yeah he might be worth approaching, unfortunately he is very Jewish.

I asked; sorry what? Do you mean he is pro Israel's genocide?

No, I mean he's tight with $.

Out of nowhere I said Wow, I haven't heard that particular smear since I was in primary school.

Which now, looking back, seems why it is so important to include #TeTiritiOWaitangi history and te reo as part of NZ school's education and celebrate the multiples of ethnicity's, cultures, faiths and languages. Children learning and understanding about the people in their communities and everyday lives is critical for a united country. Te Tiriti o Waitangi is the vehicle that brought us all together and te tiriti should be our guiding light moving forward.

#GiveNothingToRacism

@jeremy_pm Yes and unlike this Govt we need to go back to teaching Aotearoa's history, the good and bad.

Excellent use of the Whoa, dude. Not cool! approach. I will try to keep it in mind

Without getting too cheesy (the irony of the French now owning NZ's largest cheese producer) the first electric guitar I first performed with was a hand me down from Dave Dobbyn. I was many years his junior but somehow through older brother bands and school community it ended up with me. Well since passed on.

Anyhow funny how things connect you with other people. Dave Dobbyn gets it.

@jeremy_pm A LOT of people have said a friendly Kia Ora from Aotearoa Customs let them know they were home. It's part of who we are and should be celebrated not just rolled for foreign politicians as a show.
