Some fairly recent Social Media #statistics. Wow, #Facebook is doing just as good as ever, apparently. Humanity is, at this point in history, obdurate. Never mind the rise of AI slop (or the environmental impact), never mind privacy violations, etc, the trends are all in the favor of the big Social Media networks. @tuxlife A surprising number of people on Mastodon still use Facebook, Instagram, and Whatsapp, for a wide range of reasons. I'm speaking specifically to those people as a reminder that, inconvenience notwithstanding, there's no reason to use any Meta product.

@Gustodon Trump won voters on SNAP. Many people experiencing famine right now are actually angrier that Zuckerberg did not get a bigger tax cut than they are about their own hunger. True story. A lot of low-income conservatives who are not getting enough food and health care are worried sick that Zohran Mamdani might bring socialism and food to their own class.

@Gustodon i meant alternatives to facebook. the use case is allowing an extended family of approximately 50 people spread across 3 continents, several of whom are in their 80s and 90s, to share messages, photos, video, and DMs. if it helps, i hate FB, meta and zuckerberg.

It always seems jarring to me to see someone recommend replacing Microsoft Windows or Microsoft Office with a FOSS replacement, and then in the same post recommend using a front-end for Microsoft Bing. Or in this case, three front-ends for Bing.

(And I'm saying that as a DDG user because Mojeek's index doesn't have wide enough coverage.)
