@randahl Although I have lots of issues with how Ronald Reagan destroyed much of the regulatory systems and fundamental protections against big business and rich (often republicans) controlling everything… one has to admit he at least *tried* to do something good during his presidency, and that speech has a lot of qualities that most Americans (well those who thought well of him at one time) admired in him. Caring about the people and the future of the country.

It’s striking how the press outside his sycophant group treats him; in Australia many are openly disdainful & the descriptive language is what you’d use for a wilful but rather stupid child. Exasperated, a bit indulgent, more disbelieving. There certainly isn’t the veneration & adoration of the sycophants. Good on the Canadians for calling him out so expertly. A real ‘child says Emperor’s got no clothes’ moment. Hope for many more! 😁

Having done that, no wonder Thump’s so cranky! Reagan makes it perfectly clear that mutuality is the winning trading strategy - a word Thump couldn’t pronounce let alone define or enact. He just refuses to educate himself; how much energy does that take? 🤔

@randahl I think it is fair to say that the Canadians are not nearly as narked about this as Trump would wish. They will simply look for other buyers of the produce. It's a big world. And anyway, Trump doesn't want to be importing Canadian stuff - he wants it all made in America.

Parallel situation in the UK. Margaret Thatcher former PM and friend of Reagan is seen by the right wing, free market, anti-EU, Brexit crowd as a secular saint. But it was she pushed the EU into creating the single market, ie free trade zone, in the EU against opposition from protectionist states. So now the EU has no tariff or other barriers but the 'free trade' UK does and it's costing us dear.

Worst hit of course is the food sector. Fresh fruit and veg from southern Europe and fish from cold northern waters were both traded freely to the benefit of all. Now they are held up at customs for hours or even days which adds to costs and means they are much less fresh when they finally get to the shops. So we pay more for worse.

Whether that is all or only that speech I'm unable to certify, but it was probably in official records, at least until very recently.

Are you sure? The receipt looks quite AI generated. Part of the text is readable while other parts are blurred, unless items like "poppi calssic cola soda" are real typos.

@HugeGameArtGD The blurriness is exactly the kind of result you would get, if this stock footage clip was filmed with an f/1.2 lens to deliberately blur the background in order to emphasize the focus on the subject.

Then on top of that, everything is compressed on YouTube which can give all sorts of rendering artifacts — especially in 1920p.

Simple typing errors on super market receipts are not uncommon in real life.
