getting into the shower: terrible, annoying

being in the shower: glorious, amazing

getting out of the shower: terrible, annoying

@infinitefinite I dont even get amazing in the shower. I dont like water on meeeeee
@hellomiakoda @infinitefinite I don't know if it's the water for me, think it's mainly the act of showing. If I could just be parsed through a human carwash, that would be great
@infinitefinite our bodies know that leaving the sea was an evolutionary tragedy
@infinitefinite Why in the 21st century has no one solved this? StarTrek invented sonic showers decades ago
@infinitefinite
okay โ€” where exactly did you install the shower?

@infinitefinite I think I've found the solution. Don't have an enclosed shower. We have a glass shower "curtain" on one edge of the bath and the far end is open. It means the rest of the bathroom is warm when you get out of the shower and it's not horrible. Does mean the rest of the bathroom is also super moist and suffers from mould if not cleaned, but worth it :)

Getting out of fully enclosed showers into a colder bathroom, very unpleasant.

@infinitefinite
My hair is wet. It is terrible sensory. Time to shave it off!

@infinitefinite

so much this.

Also, lets flip it around:

getting into bed: terrible, annoying

being in bed: glorious, amazing

getting out of bed: terrible, annoying

@infinitefinite it's the opposite for me.

Getting in the shower: terrible, annoying.

Being in the shower: uncomfortable.

Getting out of the shower: relieved it's over and feeling clean

@AutisticInnovator @infinitefinite Glad this is not just me.
@Kaliah @AutisticInnovator I'm with @infinitefinite on this one--if only we actually *HAD* a shower! All we have here is a bathtub, and that thing's the bane of my existence, because it's physically tough to get in and out of.
@tarrenvane @AutisticInnovator @infinitefinite My issue with showers are that by the end of them I end up with absolutely brutal nausea, and occasionally a strong feeling of needing to sit/lay down urgently, not sure what to call that. Showers wouldn't be so bad if I didn't have to rest and get through that for 15 minutes every time after taking one. I have no idea if it's the heat, the noise, or something else linked to showers, but it's a very unfortunate side effect.
@Kaliah @AutisticInnovator @infinitefinite Hmmm, maybe you could try cutting down on the heat and see if that helps?

@tarrenvane @Kaliah @AutisticInnovator @infinitefinite hey! i have this too, maybe you could look into POTS? (postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome)

in that case lowering the temp towards the end and making sure you're very well hydrated can help

@lucie_tronvert @tarrenvane @Kaliah @AutisticInnovator @infinitefinite you can also get a shower chair, showering while sitting is easier and reduce POTS symptoms

@lucie_tronvert @tarrenvane @Kaliah @AutisticInnovator @infinitefinite

Yeah, syncope onset feels like severe nausea for me. I always know when I'm about to pass out because I catch myself looking for something to puke in. Definitely standing for a long time can do this for folks with orthostatic intolerance or POTS, and adding heat to the mix can make it way more severe. Maybe a shower chair is the answer.

@infinitefinite ive started liking getting out of the shower a lot more since i started living alone and also got on hrt, now i kinda walk around naked for a while, or lay down naked, and being wet after it while naked gives a rly nice and relaxing feeling, so combined with the fact that i actually quite like my body now, it's gotten quite relaxing except for having to dry my hair which is still annoying, but it used to feel a lot worse in every way lmao

@infinitefinite I want a waterproof laptop so I can have my working day without having to leave the shower.

HR might be less impressed by the resultant Zoom calls, though.

@infinitefinite
I'm the same way, I don't know what it is. You can barely pay me to get in the shower but I love it while I'm there.
@infinitefinite this accurately describes the previous 30 minutes of my life.
@infinitefinite Being in the shower is pretty terrible and annoying, too, when you can't stand getting running water on your face. Baths fix everything.

@infinitefinite

I envy people who enjoy the experience of taking a shower and do not find it abhorrent.

I can barely comprehend it. At best the experience of showering is tolerable to me.
