@georgetakei The irony is that I got a Twitter account in order to follow the "Arab Spring" in Egypt, which "mainstream" media were not covering. I got direct news, from real people.
Then I got a Mastodon account to escape Musk owning Twitter and turning it into a Nazi cesspool.
The pattern continues, with non-social media.
I guess hope #loops can supplant #tiktok

George, you have thoughtfully added alt text to this post. But Mr. Reich's own posts here on Mastodon never add alt text. That's odd because his posts are often just screencaps of his text items on Bluesky.

He's had this pointed out to him on Mastodon several times. He never even replies. So, today, I unfollowed him.

Robert Reich can ignore me. But maybe he won't ignore George Takei.

I left X, TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, Threads, but use Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp on a limited basis, The only reason I still have any connection to Disney or Paramount is Star Wars and Star Trek. I have never had an account with WaPo, and if linked to it, I close it right away. Add Fox to the list as long ago as when they cancelled Firefly. I still hang around with CW in hopes of a Babylon 5 reboot

Every once in a while people start whispering hopefully about a reboot. It would be wonderful.
I am also smiling as we talk about this in a George Takei thread 😊 On the whole, I think Babylon5 has a far better, and developing, story. That being said; I absolutely love Star Trek Discovery. The characters are all so wonderful, and I almost cried when the doctor died. I sound like a silly fangirl now 😂 But it felt good to be able to still be touched.

The only remedy: Stop watching and reading what they dish up. All those 'made for TV' sitcoms are just there to dumb you down anyway. The 'special effects' and AI-generated stuff is doing the same. Only read printed books from before 2020. Just some easy ways to reduce the profits from AI generated content. Soon those billionaires will turn their back on AI and some won't be that rich anymore.
