The default is 300 and it is silly and annoying.
Good arguments need space for explanations. Lets leave this useless Twitter relic in the past!

Fedi.TipsUnfortunately Mastodon's "vanilla" version deliberately does not allow instance admins to easily adjust the character limit.
Some admins with tech skills can edit the code, and there are forks (Glitch Mastodon, Hometown Mastodon) which let admins easily adjust it, but unaltered vanilla Mastodon doesn't have this option 😞

Christian OttYep :) It runs on my own infrastructure. Was not that hard to change the limit though, two variables in two files and a server restart.
