"The Treasury Dept instructed employees not to share photos of the demolition of parts of the White House’s East Wing after images of construction equipment dismantling the facade of the building went viral online.

Treasury’s HQ is located next door to the East Wing, giving employees there a front-row seat to the construction of Trump’s $250 million ballroom. The new project is set to replace parts of the East Wing."

We suppose the demolition of the White House East Wing was planned; that is where the new ballroom will be located.

The White House East Wing - what it was and what it will become.

According to the announcement from the White House -

"The White House State Ballroom will be a exquisite addition of approx 90,000 total square feet of ornately designed space, with a seated capacity of 650 people."

Some simple calculations show that the ballroom plus the East Colonnade occupy about 45,000 sq ft. of land. So, how do we get to 90,000 sq ft? Are there two floors of the Ballroom (perhaps one underground) that are being counted?

@AkaSci

Sounds like some trees are about to be cut in secret...

... Remember the outage from the Nazis when Michelle planted some veggies?

Edit: Literally 30 minutes after I posted this, I found turdstain has ripped out 6 trees, 2 of which were trees planted by previous presidents as a memorial.

@AkaSci maybe the treasure building is next. all the assets are being transferred to tRump private account so we dont need treasure.

@AkaSci

You are assuming Trump or his hangers-on can multiply.

This is a rebuttable assumption: they sneer with disdain at all such "expertise".

@weekend_editor @AkaSci
Exactly. This is the regime that repeatedly talks about lowering drug prices by 1500%, so basic math is obviously a concept they can't quite grasp. Of course, the challenge with this regime is you rarely can be sure if it's sheer stupidity, outright bullsh*t, the occasional grain of truth, or a combo of all of them.
@AkaSci Depends if it's flat feet or just that other fairiytale unit. "foot" lol. Obviosly effective floor space of 90000u on a 45000u area means 2 floors, btw.
@AkaSci
White and 'gold', yuck.
I did a little exercise yesterday: browsed the official White House photostreams on Flickr to compare the Oval Office interior from the previous incumbent to the present.
It is hardly surprising that commodity gold prices increased recently.
@AkaSci Oh that photo of President Obama running down the colonnade with Beau tugs at my heart!
@AkaSci AP had interviews with MAGA tourists, one of whom said, "it needed to be renovated anyway." So now it's renovated. Or modernized, per Karoline Leavitt.
@AkaSci
No foreign enemy could get away with this…
but a domestic enemy just did.
@AkaSci
Flight 93 went down so something like this wouldn’t happen. Unreal.
@AkaSci
I suppose our ancestors did something worse: burned it down and decamped with the wine cellar.
@AkaSci What happened to the furnishings? Were they part of the demolition?
I honestly always wanted to see this. I hope they just keep going until the whole thing is a pile of rubble.
@AkaSci Which White House? Do you mean the Trump Palazzo in Washington DC?

@urwumpe @AkaSci

yes. East wing is a part of the white house constructed around 1942

@AkaSci

$250,000,000 is a lot to spend on a ball pit.

@AkaSci
Then also demolished with a Volvo excavator. Not even with an American one 🙃

Volvo is Swedish/Chinese

@AkaSci

All because one man was disappointed that he didn't have big enough balls.
