What a timing: while I'm sitting at a #CloudAbolition workshop, #AWS takes down major centralised services like #Signal, #WhatsApp and #Teams.

People continue happily texting me on @matrix though 💚

@ilumium irc still going strong.

@ilumium Signal did not really manage well at all today, given that they are _presumably_ not quite as bound up with corporate bureaucracy and legacy infrastructure as a lot of the other services that died. Mobile recovered for me about 20 minutes ago and desktop came online just now.

Status page was randomly flipping green/red, no info on social media, mobile client not clearly indicating service problems.

PSA: we're aware that Signal is down for some people. This appears to be related to a major AWS outage. Stand by.

@corvus_ch Yes, it was something at least, but going forward the failure to communicate (one post on CEO's personal account) and mitigate (services only came back when AWS did) is perhaps more worrying than the outage itself.

Not that I have any better suggestions at this point for the privacy-preserving-E2EE segment besides Signal.

@ilumium @matrix wait, the signal is also down? Really? What a joke
@ilumium @matrix could you share any info about the #CloudAbolition workshop? I couldn't find anything

@Xeniax I cannot share much unfortunately. It was an internal civil society workshop to share knowledge about the role computational infrastructure plays in our loss of digital self-determination and autonomy, and what to do about it :)

The AWS outage was a welcome point in case so to speak.
