Statistically, nobody cares about Liquid Glass. There has been no user revolt, no viral TikToks, no nothing. Nobody's even complaining about the Music app. On the flipside, nobody is proclaiming its virtues, either. It just kinda… is, and everybody is moving on with their lives.

The only thing anybody seems to care about is transparent & tinted icons — which a certain kind of person seems to *love*

@stroughtonsmith TBF, everybody's sort of busy with fascist take over, genocide, politcal crises everywere and climate collapse…

@stroughtonsmith Maybe I'm missing it in places but I haven't see the word "blurred" used often and that's all I think when I look at app icons such as the Photos app. CarPlay is blurry everywhere.

Makes me feel like the hardware itself has gotten worse when I see the blur.

@andrewhathaway They do look very blurry and blurry generally = bad in modern computer hardare

@stroughtonsmith in future hater’s defense, Apple hasn’t forced the upgrade for normals yet, so maybe the hate is yet to come.

Full disclosure: I like it.

@stroughtonsmith That is just not true. I see a totally different picture, maybe because I trained the algos differently than you.
@gklka What picture do you see?
@maxoakland A diverse picture for sure, but many-many people have opinion about the new design. A lot of them complain about the usual things (contrast issues, visibility, corner radii, etc), and a lot of them enjoying the effect in various places from icons to Notification Center overlay edge.
@stroughtonsmith While that's generally true and will probably remain generally true, I do think it's a little early to say until Apple starts pushing it as an auto-update to everyone's phones (the way they usually do with .1 or .2).
@marcoarment @stroughtonsmith My partner only updates when Apple pushes it. I'm already bracing for their frustrations.
@marcoarment @stroughtonsmith I have it blocked everywhere (I realize that's not normal). I just want no part of it, for as long as possible.
@stroughtonsmith there are already guides on using reduce transparency and increase contrast to “fix” it. I’ve also seen numerous articles highlighting the flaws with not just the transparency but the design philosophy in general. There are also people like me who just aren’t bothering to upgrade because there aren’t enough benefits to make it worth doing.
@stroughtonsmith What I really like is the floating tab bar, I feel like I have more screen space

@stroughtonsmith Yeah, I *do* care that my phone is less usable, and that it looks ugly now. But, like others have said, I have to focus on fighting the fall of democracy. Oh, and also finding a phone that isn't Apple or Google, because both of them support the excesses of Trump's administration.

Liquid Glass? More Like Liquid Not-Very-Good-UI-Upgrade.

@stroughtonsmith I hear about how much it sucks daily from my teenage daughter. She never complained about software updates before. She is not following anybody who cares about it on social media either.

I do think the suckyness is below the threshold of revolt (what would that even look like?), but I am also convinced it was a bad update for most people.

@stroughtonsmith Love seeing my old film photos of my wife under glass, very amusing. And she seeing her grandchildren under glass is also fun. It’s good to have a change once in a while 🙂
@stroughtonsmith I work at a cellphone provider selling cellphones. Not a ton of people comment on the Liquid Glass but most people say they don’t like it, that it’s ugly
@stroughtonsmith at a record low 20% 1st month adoption, it is just too early to say

@stroughtonsmith and really caring about having to redesign tool and tab bars with the “do I keep the sensible version for older iOS?”

Postponing in hope Apple realise how obnoxiously intrusive the bar-cutting is and give more nuanced ways to have LG look without it.
