Friends in #iceland , I'm trying to avoid a shopping frenzy. My family will be visiting the last week of #October and we find ourselves buying thermal clothes, merino wool socks, rain-proof pants, boots, etc. Renting seems as expensive as buying. It's this really all necessary if we plan to drive around and see the sights? How do you dress when going out, really?

(We live in northern Germany, will the weather be worse?)

Thanks

@samerfarha @DanielleVossebeld @blausand @robirobsen @peturdainn Funny thing: despite the blizzards and largest snowfall and driving very, very slow, we ended up never using the rain pants ¯\(ツ)/¯. Rented jackets (Didriksons) and boots were super important, on top of the merino wool base and a mid layer. As was a car with 4WD. Thanks for the good advice! Here's a picture of our average experience. It's a beautiful place.
@toldtheworld @DanielleVossebeld @blausand @robirobsen @peturdainn so lovely! Glad the weather didn’t get too much in your way!

@toldtheworld the ice is only in the name, it isn't any colder than winter in Belgium here, for example. Moderate temperature due to being in the middle of the ocean, etc.

It can be windy, however, which gives a colder feeling, so pack a windstopper and ditto jacket.

Unless you rented a jeep do not think you can follow any road you want

@toldtheworld Wind! I went to Iceland in June and was basically wearing merino leggings, shirt and wool sweater all the time.
@robirobsen got it. Probably some wind-chill, too.
However, if you plan to go to Merino some day, don't forget to bring a bucket of lava from Iceland in return.
You owe the sheep.
@blausand a bucket of lava and a bucket of moss
@toldtheworld depends on how cold you get, really. If staying in Reykjavík, it’s usually warmer than in the country. I usually wear jeans, normal underwear, but if it’s colder, I’ll just add layers on top (undershirt, long sleeve pullover, flannel, jacket). Get rain pants and a good wind shell and you should be fine.
@samerfarha Thanks! I keep hearing about the rain pants... You mean on top of the jeans rather than dedicated, water-proof pants, right?
@toldtheworld yep! So you can take them off if it gets too hot (plus most rain isn’t biblical and doesn’t need them)
